WILMINGTON, North Carolina – UNCW senior right-side hitter Christi Laite was named the Colonial Athletic Association’s Co-Offensive Player-of-the-Week on Monday.

Laite, who shared the award with Hofstra’s Kelsie Wills, was recognized for the second time this season as she was also honored on Sept. 3 after being named MVP of the Kristen Dickmann Invitational.

“The two wins over JMU and WM will certainly go down as one of the most memorable weekends for our program since I have been at UNCW,” said UNCW Head Coach Amy Bambenek. “Christi played with tons of confidence and was a tremendous sparkplug that made it difficult for either JMU or W&M to gain any momentum against us. She was creative with her shot selection, which kept our opponents guessing and ultimately led to a great attacking performance from Christi all weekend.”

A native of Severna Park, Md., Laite recorded 30 kills (5.0 KPS) and posted a .472 hitting percentage in leading UNCW to sweeps of James Madison and William & Mary last weekend at Hanover Hall. She committed just five attack errors in 53 total attempts to power a Seahawks lineup that combined to hit .191 for the weekend.

Against James Madison, Laite finished with 12 kills and just three errors in 21 total attempts for a .429 hitting percentage against the Dukes. She followed that performance with 18 kills and only two miscues in 32 tries for a .500 attack clip against William & Mary. She also added four total blocks, including one solo rejection, versus the Tribe.

UNCW (14-7; 3-4 CAA) returns to action Saturday when it travels to league-leading College of Charleston for a 2 p.m. matinee at TD Arena.
