CARY, North Carolina – Senior Rafael Aita and junior Sam Williams are in a New York state of mind.

Aita (Lima, Peru) and Williams (Bristol, England) punched their ticket to the ITA National Men’s Tennis Indoor Championships in Flushing, N.Y., early Monday by completing an unbeaten run in the ITA Carolina Regional at Cary Tennis Park.

Aita and Williams, the No. 2 seeds, defeated N.C. State’s Robbie Mudge and Sean Weber, 8-4, for the right to travel to New York. The team beat opponents form Elon, Duke, North Carolina, South Carolina and N.C. State en route to the championship.

“We take a lot of confidence from this because we have so much respect for the teams in our region,” said seventh-year Head Coach Mait DuBois. “We feel real good going into the national indoors next month.”

The national tournament, scheduled Nov. 7-10 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, will feature 16 teams from eight regions, along with wild card entries.
