WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Goals from John Grosh and Guido Pena lifted visiting Drexel past UNCW, 2-0, in Colonial Athletic Association men’s soccer action on Wednesday at the UNCW Soccer Stadium.

The win snaps a four-game winless skid for the Dragons and moved their record to 6-5-2 overall and 2-0-1 in the CAA. The Seahawks, meanwhile, dropped to 6-5-1 and 2-2 in the league.

Grosh opened the scoring in the 34th minute when corralled a pass at the top of the penalty area and eluded his defender with a touch to the left side. He then lined his shot just inside the right post from 16 yards out at the 33:50 mark.

Colin Bonner nearly tied the game in the 45th minute when he stole the ball from a Drexel defender and fired a shot from 20 yards out that skipped just outside the right post with 42 seconds remaining in the half.

Pena added to Drexel’s lead with his first goal of the season coming in the 50th minute. Ken Tribbett started the play with a pass from the right side that found Pena streaking into the penalty area and he headed it home from 10 yards out with 40:25 left in regulation.

The Seahawks outshot the Dragons, 13-9, but DU goalkeeper Tyler Afflerback recorded the shutout with an eight-save performance.

UNCW visits UNC Chapel Hill in its final non-conference match of the season on Oct. 22. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
