JOHNSON CITY, Tennessee – UNCW carded a season-low round of 284 as senior Payne McLeod moved into the top 20 by matching his career-low round of 67 on Saturday at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate at the Blackthorn Club.

The Seahawks remained in fifth despite the low round as six teams shot under-par rounds. UNCW is four strokes behind fourth-place and host East Tennessee.

Kent State carded a 12-under-par 279 to take a two-stroke lead over Virginia Tech.

Virginia’s Derek Bard finished round two at eight-under for the round and moved from 15th overall into a tie with Virginia Tech’s Scott Vincent for the individual lead at nine-under.

McLeod, who is tied for 14th, matched his career-low round on the strength of a team-leading six birdies. He finished the opening nine holes at two-under before posting four more birdies on the back nine. Only a bogey on the 17th hole prevented him from posting a career-low round.

Freshman Trey Guy recorded his third round of under-par golf as he carded a three-under-par-69 on Saturday. He used a trio of birdies on the back nine to finish off his round and move into a tie for 10th.

The final round tees off at 9:20 a.m. for the Seahawks, who wil be paired with East Tennessee and Tennessee.
