JOHNSON CITY, Tennessee – Senior Stefan Brewer carded a season-low two-under-par-70 in the first round to pace UNCW, who is tied with 26th-ranked Memphis, at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate on Friday at the Blackthorn Club.

East Tennessee State leads the nationally-ranked dominated field by seven strokes over 13th-ranked Virginia Tech. The field features six teams ranked in Golfstat’s top-50.

ETSU’s Rhys Pugh, six-under-par-66, holds a one-stroke lead over a trio of golfers including Thomas Birdsey (Wake Forest), Bryace Howell (Furman) and fourth-ranked Scott Vincent (Virginia Tech).

Brewer, who is tied for ninth, played steady golf, recording three birdies and one bogey on the afternoon.

Joining Brewer in the top-20 is freshman Trey Guy, who is tied for 15th at one-under-par.

The tournament continues on Saturday with 18 more holes.
