BOSTON – Freshman Haley Sinclair scored in 69th minute to break a 1-all tie and lead Northeastern to a 2-1 victory over UNCW in Colonial Athletic Association women’s soccer action Sunday at Parsons Field.

The Huskies improved to 2-6-3 overall and 2-0-0 in league play while the Seahawks slipped to 5-7-0 and 0-2-0.

Sinclair’s game-winning strike came at the 68:28 mark as she headed home a corner kick from senior Hanna Terry for her first collegiate tally.

In the first half, sophomore Katrina Guillou opened the scoring in the 25th minute when she gained possession of the ball at the top of the box before placing her shot into the right-hand side of the net for her fifth goal of the season. Senior Meg Kiser was credited with an assist on the play.

The Huskies drew even at 1-all with exactly eight minutes remaining in the first half when sophomore Morgan Hilby took advantage of a feed from Terry to score her third goal of the season.

Junior Paige Burnett got the start in goal for the Huskies and made one save to earn the victory. Freshman Liisa Rahkola began the game in the net for the Seahawks and made two saves before leaving the game with an injury in the 78th minute. Freshman Carolyn Huddy replaced Rahkola and played the final 12:53.  

Northeastern held a 12-6 shot advantage in the contest, highlighted by a 5-2 advantage in the second half. Both teams were awarded two corner kicks.

UNCW returns to action Oct. 4 as it hosts Towson in a 7 p.m. contest at the UNCW Soccer Stadium. Northeastern is back on the pitch Oct. 5 when it entertains Hofstra in a 6 p.m. matchup.
