WILMINGTON, North CarolinaDavid Sizemore’s second goal of the season tied the game for UNCW in the second half and neither side could find a game-winner, as the Seahawks and Campbell played to a 1-all draw on Tuesday at the UNCW Soccer Stadium.

The Seahawks moved to 3-3-1 with the home tie while the Camels went to 1-5-1 and saw their winless streak extended to five straight matches. It was also just the second tie in the all-time series, which spans 48 games, and first since 1979.

CU opened the scoring in the 59th minute when Jhuvon Francis netted his first goal of the season. Ricki Gaez began the play with a chip pass to the right side following a Seahawk turnover. Francis took a touch before letting loose a shot from 10 yards out and beating UNCW goalkeeper Sam Williams, who finished with five saves.

Sizemore drew the Seahawks even in the 62nd minute when his blast from 27 yards out sailed into the upper lefthand corner of the goal.

CU goalkeeper Ethan Hall made the biggest of his three saves on the night with 2:44 on the clock in the initial overtime. UNCW’s Jamie Dell broke through the defense, bringing the ball to the rightside of the penalty area. Dell then fired a low shot that deflected off the inside of Hal’s left leg and rolled just outside the left post to keep the game tied.

Bryce Miller nearly ended the game himself when he corralled a loose ball in the UNCW penalty area, but his shot sailed high and wide of the goal with 3:41 left in the second overtime.

Both teams managed to get off 18 shots apiece, but CU had six shots on frame to UNCW’s four.

The Seahawks open Colonial Athletic Association this weekend with a 7 p.m. kickoff at Charleston on Saturday.
