GREENSBORO, North Carolina – Goals in the final 10 minutes by Brian Graham and Dustin Gamradt propelled host UNCG to a 2-0 win over visiting UNCW on a rainy Saturday in men’s college soccer action at the UNCG Soccer Stadium.

The Spartans improved to 4-3 and halted a three-game losing skid. The Seahawks, meanwhile, dropped their second straight road game and moved to 3-3 on the season.

“We gave a good effort tonight in some tough conditions,” said UNCW Head Coach Aidan Heaney. “I thought Jacob VanCompernolle, Colin Bonner and Jose Garcia really played well for us. We had chances, but we needed better composure in the attacking third of the field.”

Following a scoreless 79 minutes, Graham scored the eventual game-winner on a diving head off a cross from Noah DeAngelo. It was his second goal of the season.

Trailing 1-0, UNCW nearly capitalized to draw the game even, but David Sizemore’s shot sailed just above the crossbar in the 82nd minute. Jamie Dell beat his defender to the end line and rolled a cross to Sizemore, but the feed was deflected and Sizemore was unable to get any pace on the shot.

Gamradt was able to take advantage of the Seahawks pushing forward for the equalizer with 1:40 remaining, when he took a short pass and raced down the left flank. He cut back towards the middle of the field and slid his shot past a charging UNCW goalkeeper Sean Melvin.

UNCW held a 15-11 advantage, but UNCG keeper Stephen Moffitt was up to the task, making four saves in recording the shutout. Melvin finished with a trio of saves.

Dell led the Seahawks with six shots.

The Seahawks next host Campbell at 7 p.m. on Sept. 24, at the UNCW Soccer Stadium.
