WILMINGTON, North Carolina – The UNCW women’s golf team opens the 2013-14 season this weekend as it takes part in the Lady Paladin Invitational at the Furman University Golf Course.

The 54-hole, five-count-four event will feature three days of competition on the par 72, 6,266-yard layout. The first two rounds are scheduled for Friday and Saturday and are slated to begin at 9 a.m. with players starting on the No. 1 and No. 10 holes. Sunday’s final round will feature a shotgun start at 9 a.m.

The Seahawks are one of 17 teams in a talented field that includes 2013NCAA Women’s Golf Championship qualifier Wisconsin as well as NCAA regional participants Coastal Carolina, East Carolina, Florida State, Furman, GRU Augusta and Texas A&M. Also in the field this weekend are Clemson, Georgia State, Houston, Kennessaw State, 2013 NCAA Division II runner-up Nova Southeastern, Samford, Southern Mississippi, UNCG and Wofford.

Veteran UNCW Head Coach Cindy Ho returns for her 12th season with an experienced lineup that features four seniors, highlighted by reigning CAA Player-of-the-Year Lori Beth Adams. Adams enjoyed a breakout junior season in 2012-13 by posting a school-record 74.12 stroke average in 12 events played. She recorded eight top 10 finishes and five top 5 results on her way to earning an individual invitation to the NCAA Central Regional, where she finished tied for 11th.

Adams will be joined in the lineup by fellow seniors Megan Burnham and Laverry Kumar. Junior Mallory Warrick and sophomore Elizabeth Hall, who will be making her UNCW debut after playing the 2012-13 season at Converse (S.C.), round out the lineup.

Lady Paladin Invitational has been held annually since 1972. Past winners of the event include Betsy King, Nancy Lopez, Dottie Pepper and Kelly Tilghman. Former UNCW Seahawk standout Carmen Perez-Narbon claimed individual medalist honors in 2007 with a three-round total of 217.

UNCW returns to action Sept. 30-Oct. 1in the Northwestern Windy City Classic at the Northmoor Country Club.
