WILMINGTON, North Carolina – The UNCW volleyball team plays its only midweek match of the season Wednesday as it faces long-time rival Campbell in a 7 p.m. contest at the Pope Convocation Center.

UNCW brings an 8-2 overall record into its trip to Buies Creek after posting a perfect 4-0 record in the Hilton Garden Inn Mayfaire UNCW Volleyball Classic last weekend. The Seahawks recorded 3-0 sweeps of Mercer and North Carolina A&T and 3-1 triumphs over UNC Asheville and Western Carolina to finish its home tournament with an unblemished record.

Junior Morgan Kline, the Colonial Athletic Association’s Co-Offensive Player-of-the-Week, was named Tournament MVP after averaging 3.61 kills and 3.0 digs per set. Senior Christi Laite joined Kline on the All-Tournament Team as she averaged 3.07 kills and 1.07 digs per frame. It marked the third time this season that the Severna Park, Md., product has earned All-Tournament Team recognition.

Freshman Nicole Lott was also recognized for her efforts last weekend as she was named CAA Rookie-of-the-Week. Lott averaged 2.18 kills and 1.90 digs per set during the Hilton Garden Inn Mayfaire UNCW Volleyball Classic.  

Campbell enters Wednesday’s matchup with a 7-4 record following a 1-2 finish to the Morehead State Eagle Challenge. The Camels opened the weekend with a sweep of Hampton before falling to West Virginia and Morehead State in their final two matches.

Junior Jessica Groen leads the Campbell attack with a 2.75 kills per set average while senior Lindsey Coats serves as the team’s most efficient hitter, posting a .290 attack clip. Defensively, sophomore Mary Crema leads the Big South and ranks 10th nationally in digs per set (5.55) while junior Lorin Thomas is first on the team in blocks per frame (0.89).

Wednesday’s matchup marks the 43rd meeting between the two programs. UNCW holds a 29-14 advantage in the series and has won four of the past five matchups, including a 3-0 victory at Hanover Hall last August.

The Seahawks return to action this weekend as they close out the tournament portion of their 2013 schedule with an appearance in the Winthrop Invitational in Rock Hill, S.C. The Seahawks open the tournament against The Citadel on Friday and close the weekend with contests versus Winthrop and Bethune-Cookman on Saturday.
