WILMINGTON, North Carolina – UNCW head men’s golf coach Matt Clark has announced a fundraiser, “Birdies for Kaitlyn," to assist former Seahawk standout and UNCW Hall-of-Famer Derek Brown and his family during the 2013-14 season.

Proceeds from “Birdies for Kaitlyn” will allow the Brown family to make necessary upgrades to their house for their daughter, Kaitlyn, who was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy.

“We want to be birdie making machines for Kaitlyn and the Brown family,” said Clark, who is in his sixth season with the Seahawks. “This is a tremendous opportunity to help a former player, as well as learn more about cerebral palsy. Once a Seahawk always a Seahawk, that is what I teach and words that I want to become a reality here. Please help Kaitlyn by sponsoring our team for each birdie we make this season. Every penny counts!”

The Seahawks are asking for donations per birdie recorded during the 2013-14 season or flat donation to the project.

The total number of birdies will be announced following the completion of each tournament. The Seahawks, who open their season Sept. 14, are slated to compete in 11 tournaments for the 2013-14 academic year with four tournaments in the fall and seven in the spring.

UNCW enters the season as the defending Colonial Athletic Association champion for the third straight year. The Seahawks competed in their fourth consecutive NCAA regional in 2013 and return five letterwinners from 2012-13.
