WILMINGTON, North Carolina – UNCW senior right side hitter Christi Laite was named the Colonial Athletic Association’s Co-Offensive Player-of-the-Week on Tuesday.

A native of Severna Park, Md., Laite was named MVP of the Kristen Dickmann Invitational at the United States Naval Academy last weekend as led the Seahawks to a perfect 3-0 record and the tournament title. She averaged 4.00 kills per set and posted a .289 hitting percentage during the tournament as the Seahawks teamed up to post a combined hitting percentage of .228 during the two-day event.  Laite also matched her career-high with 22 kills in the tournament finale against UIC as she moved into sole possession of 10th place on the program’s career kills chart (848) during the contest.

“Christi had a solid opening weekend and she has proven time and time again she is force to be reckoned with, so it is an honor for her to be recognized with this award,” said UNCW Head Coach Amy Bambenek. “Christi and her teammates showcased a lot of drive and passion in each set they played and I am pleased with the level in which we played during our first tournament.”

Off to their first 3-0 start since the 2001 season, the Seahawks return to action this weekend as they take part in the FIU Classic in Miami. UNCW will open the two-day tournament Friday against Houston Baptist (12:30 p.m.) before closing out its visit to the Sunshine State with matches against Alabama (12 p.m.) and host Florida International (6 p.m.) on Saturday.
