|Men's Tennis Team Adds Academic Honors|
WILMINGTON, North Carolina – The UNCW men’s tennis team has tacked on some impressive academic accolades to its already record-setting 2013 season.
The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) singled out Coach Mait DuBois and the Seahawks this week with its All-Academic Team Award for the Spring, 2013, campaign and six members of the team – Rafael Aita, Kosta Blank, Zach Hublitz, Matt Kealy, Pedro Mol and Michael Reilly – earned Scholar-Athlete recognition.
“I’m very proud that our team has embraced the full meaning of the term ‘student-athlete,’” said Dubois, the 2013 CAA Men’s Tennis Coach-of-the-Year. “It means a lot to be recognized by the ITA. We had one of our best seasons on the court as well as in the classroom last year. It’s not easy to balance the high level of academics here with all the requirements. This award represents a lot of hard work and the character of the team members.”
The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to programs that post a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale). All eligible student-athletes must compete in one or more varsity matches to count toward the team GPA. ITA Scholar-Athlete winners must be a varsity letter winner, possess a grade point average of at least 3.50 GPA, and be enrolled for at least two semesters.
It marked the second time in the last four years that the team has been honored and graduated senior Kosta Blank earned the Scholar-Athlete award for the third time in his career.
