WILMINGTON, North Carolina – UNCW men’s swimming standout Valtteri Halonen won the 200 meter backstroke last week at the Finnish National Championships in Jyväskylä, Finland.

Halonen, who is a rising junior, captured the national title with a time of 2:05.70, and later placed third in the 100 meter backstroke.

For the Seahawks in 2012-13, Halonen set a Colonial Athletic Association championship meet record with a winning time of 1:44.49 in the 200 yard backstroke. He also finished second in the 100 yard backstroke in the finals.
