WILMINGTON, North Carolina - Former Seahawk Brad Knighton was named Major League Soccer Player-of-the-Week when he posted a career-best seven saves in a 2-0 win over Seattle to help earn Vancouver’s first win in 13 outings in the Cascadia Cup.

Knighton, who was making his eighth start of the season for the Whitecaps, raised his record to 5-1-2 with the home shutout win.

Vancouver built an early 1-0 lead just four minutes in when Kenny Miller was on the finishing end of a long pass from former Wilmington Hammerhead Corey Hertzog.

Seattle would test Knighton midway through the first half in the 22nd minute, but would come away empty as Knighton made a pair of highlight saves following a corner kick.

The Sounders had a golden opportunity just four minutes later but Knighton stonewalled Shalrie Joseph, who broke in unmarked on a through ball.

Darren Mattocks came off the bench to notch the game’s final marker for Vancouver, coming with 11 minutes remaining in regulation.
