|Honors Continue To Roll In For Bass|
WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Although he’s begun his career in the San Diego Padres organization, former UNCW standout Michael Bass earned his fifth All-America honor on Thursday as the American Baseball Coaches Association named him to its third-team.
Bass is the program’s most decorated play with the five All-America honors, surpassing Mark Carver and Bradley Holt, who earned three All-America honors apiece in 2008.
In 2013, Bass led the Seahawks in nine offensive categories, total, including batting average (.380), runs (62), hits (82) and stolen bases (26). He was the runner up for CAA Player-of-the-Year honors while tying the school record with an impressive 26-game hitting streak midway through the season.
Bass becomes UNCW’s 24th player to earn All-America honors and the first Seahawk to earn both All-America and Academic All-America honors. He and Ryan LaGrange were second-team Capital One Academic All-Americas.
Following the Seahawks’ season, Bass was selected in the 27th round by the San Diego Padres organization and has begun his professional career with the Eugene Emeralds of the short season A Northwest League.
Joining Bass on the ABCA All-America squads from the Colonial Athletic Association were Jimmy Yezzo and Nick Ferdinand of Delaware and Towson’s Kurt Wertz. The CAA finished the regular season ranked eighth in the RPI and sent three teams to the NCAA regionals with William & Mary (at-large) and CAA Champion Towson joining the Seahawks.
