WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Incoming UNCW freshman Ryan Flowers was recently named the Girl’s Basketball Player-of-the-Year by The Raleigh News & Observer.

A 2013 All-State and All-Metro selection, Flowers averaged a double-double with 12.5 points and 10.8 rebounds to lead Millbrook to a perfect 33-0 record and a second straight NCHSAA Class 4A State Championship. The Raleigh, N.C., product will represent the East in the North Carolina Coaches Association East-West All-Star girl’s basketball game July 22 at the Greensboro Coliseum.

Flowers is one of eight newcomers set to join the Seahawk women’s basketball program for the 2013-14 season.  D'Asia Cain (Smynra, Ga./Campbell), Johanna McMillan (Mullica Hill, N.J./Sanford), Brie Mobley (Winter Haven, Fla./Winter Haven), Amber Reeves (Gwinnett, Ga./North Cobb) and Naqaiyyah Teague (Newark, N.J./Malcolm X. Shabazz) along with junior college transfers Denver Clyde (Glen Burnie, Md./North County/Chesapeake CC) and Aisjah Roan (Louisville, Ky./Jeffersontown/Walters State CC) will also join the program next season.
