CAA Player of the Week Nominee: Michael Bass, INF, Senior, Fairmont, N.C./Fairmont

- Bass keyed the Seahawks key series win against visiting William & Mary hitting .357 with three doubles, scoring four runs and knocking in five from the leadoff spot in the order. He also stole three bases against the Tribe to improve his career-best total to 24 on the season. In the series finale, he knocked in a career-high five runs on two doubles to lead the Seahawks to an 11-4 win. For the week, he hit .294.

CAA Pitcher of the Week Nominee: Mat Batts, LHP, RS-Junior, Winston-Salem, N.C./Mount Tabor

- Batts tossed his fifth complete game of the season and out-dueled John Farrell of William & Mary as the Seahawks topped the Tribe, 7-2, in the opening game of the weekend’s key CAA matchup at Brooks Field. Batts improved to 9-2 by limiting the Tribe to two runs on eight hits and a pair of walks. He struck out nine to push his league-leading total to 95.

Seahawks Earn First Round Bye For CAA Tournament: By winning their series with the Tribe, the Seahawks earned at least a top-two finish in the conference standings, and with it a bye on the first day of competition. UNCW leads the conference with a 17-6 record and owns a 2.5 game lead on second-place William & Mary. UNCW won the regular season title in 2012 and also earned an opening round bye.

Remaining Schedule: The Seahawks have four games left on the docket, all on the road beginning on Tuesday with Coastal Carolina. UNCW then caps the regular season with a three-game set in New York against Hofstra. That series begins with a doubleheader on Friday followed by a single game on Saturday.

Record Watch: Kelly Secrest holds UNCW’s saves record by a lefthander with seven and is tied for 5th on the single season list, with his next save, he’ll move into a three-way tie for fourth on the career list … At 9-2, Mat Batts is second to Bryan Mazur (10-4, 1999) in wins by a southpaw in a season at UNCW … Batts is also tied for 10th on UNCW’s single season strikeout list … Michael Bass has 71 career stolen bases and needs one more to move into fourth and three more to move into third.

Streaks: Matt Keeler and Tyler Molinaro top the club with six and five-game hitting streaks, respectively … Terence Connelly is in the midst of a career-high 22 game on-base streak while Keeler is second, also with a career-long 14 games … Mat Batts has struck out seven or more batters in eight consecutive starts with a high of 11 against Davidson (Apr. 5).

Mound Report: The Seahawks fashioned an ERA of 2.57 last week, one week after posting a 4.00 ERA the previous week. Opponents hit just .235 against them and Seahawk pitchers issued nine walks and fanned 30. William & Mary managed to hit just .225 while walking a meager four times.
