NORMAN, Oklahoma – Junior Lori Beth Adams matched her career low with a three-under-par 69 to claim a share of third place in the first round of the 2013 NCAA Central Regional Thursday at the Jimmy Austin OU Golf Club.

Adams posted her eighth round of par or lower this season with the three-under-par score and matched her low collegiate round, established during the final round of the JMU Eagle Landing Invitational on March 10. Her opening round total also represents the second lowest single-round score for a UNCW golfer in postseason play.

Adams, who hit 12 of 14 fairways and 16 of 18 greens in regulation during the opening round, is one of six players tied for third as a total of 25 golfers were in the red Thursday on the par 72, 6,296-yard layout. Emily Collins of Oklahoma holds the individual lead after posting a five-under-par 67 Thursday on the host Sooners home course. Florida’s Elcin Ulu is one shot back of Collins in second with a Thursday total of 68.

Making her third straight NCAA Regional appearance, Adams showed no nerves on the 365-yard opening hole, sticking her approach shot from 130 yards out to six inches for a tap-in birdie.

Adams followed her birdie on the first hole with back-to-back pars before draining an 18-foot birdie putt on the fourth and a 13-foot birdie attempt on the fifth to move to three-under-par.

The Burlington, N.C., native continued her torrid pace on the front nine, birdying both the eighth and ninth holes to make the turn atop the leaderboard with front-nine total of 31.

A bogy on each of the first two holes of the back nine moved Adams to three under while a successful 30-foot birdie putt on the 14th put her back at four under. She would move once again to three under with a bogey on the 16th before closing out the round with pars on the final two holes to complete her opening round 69.

The second round of the 2013 NCAA Central Regional gets underway Friday at 8:30 EST. Adams, who will once again be paired with fellow individual competitors Fanny Cnops (UNCG) and Emma Henrikson (San Diego State), will begin her round on the No. 10 tee at 1:45 p.m. EST.
