WILMINGTON, North Carolina – UNCW senior second baseman Lauryn Buckworth was named First-Team All-CAA as the Colonial Athletic Association handed out its annual awards Tuesday at the league's pre-tournament banquet.

Earning all-conference accolades for the first time in her career, Buckworth becomes just the fourth player in program history to earn First-Team All-CAA accolades and the first since Carley Hughes received the distinction during the 2007 season.

“Lauryn had a very consistent year for us at the plate,” said UNCW Head Coach Kristy Norton. “She had quality at bat after quality at bat throughout the season. As a middle infielder, her leadership on the field defensively will be hard to replace.”

A native of Elkton, Md., Buckworth started all but one of the 53 games she played in during the 2013 season and led the Seahawks with a .355 batting average and 55 hits, including a team-best 14 doubles. She ranked second on the squad in runs batted in (29) and struck out a team-low six times in 155 at-bats. Defensively, Buckworth ranked second on the team in assists (83) and third in putouts (85).

In other awards handed out on Tuesday, James Madison’s Sarah Mooney was named CAA Player-of-the-Year while Dukes freshman Jailyn Ford earned Rookie-of-the-Year honors. Hoftra’s Olivia Galati was named Pitcher-of-the-Year and Pride Head Coach Bill Edwards took home Coach-of-the-Year honors.
