WILMINGTON, North Carolina – The UNCW men’s swimming and diving program has announced the additions of divers Allen Crosby and Giovanni Villanueva for the 2013-14 season.

“We’re very pleased to have both of these talented young men join our program,” said Head Coach Dave Allen, who recently guided the men’s program to its 12th consecutive Colonial Athletic Association title. “Getting two quality student-athletes like Allen and Giovanni will make our entire swimming and diving program stronger.

Crosby (Matthews, N.C./Charlotte Christian School) is an in-state product that has excelled on both the AAU and national stages.  He was the AAU national champion in both the one and three-meter dives and was a finalist at the 2012 USA Diving Age Group National Championships, placing sixth on the three-meter board.

Crosby has reached the finals of the USA Diving Spring Regionals, Summer Regionals and Summer Zone meets on both the one and three-meter boards multiple times, reaching the finals each year since 2009.  In the 2009 East National Championships, Crosby finished seventh on the three-meter.

Villanueva (Orlando, Fla./Freedom H.S.) comes to UNCW after earning Florida High School Athletics Association All-State honors four times during his prep career. He finished second at the FHSAA State Championships this past year.

In 2013, Villanueva was a finalist in the one-meter diving event at the All-Star Challenge. As a junior in 2012, he was a Summer Regional and Summer Zone B finalist in the one and three-meter events and competed in the USA Diving Age Group National Championships in the one-meter.

Villanueva also reached the finals of the 2012 YMCA National Championships and placed ninth on both the one and three-meter boards.

“Allen and Giovanni bring much-needed depth to the diving end of the pool,” said UNCW diving coach Beau Bunn. “Their addition will put us right up there with some of the best divers we have ever had. I’m looking forward to the opportunity to work with both of them.”
