TOWSON, Maryland – Towson’s Nik Nowottnick struck out six over four and 1/3 innings of relief as Towson topped visiting UNCW, 8-5, to win the Colonial Athletic Association weekend series on Sunday at Schuerholz Park.

The Tigers evened their record at 21-21 overall and improved to 11-7 in the league. The Seahawks, meanwhile, dropped to 32-13 and 13-4.

Nowottnick (4-2) earned the win as Towson rallied from a 3-2 deficit in the fifth with two in that inning and three more in the sixth.

UNCW starter Jordan Ramsey (6-3) suffered the loss, allowing seven runs, six earned, over six innings.

Brendan Butler keyed the Tigers at the plate, finishing a double short of hitting for the cycle. He scored three runs, scored twice and belted his third homer of the season. Kurt Wertz also homered, it was his seventh of the season.

For the Seahawks, Corey Dick finished 2-for-4 with his seventh homer of the season and two runs batted in. Ryan LaGrange added two hits and Drew Farber had two hits and knocked in two runs.

Brandon Gonnella earned his first save of the season, getting the final out of the game.

Up next: The Seahawks return to action when they host conference foe Northeastern in a three-game series beginning on May 3rd at 6 p.m.

How it happened: Brendan Butler homered to lead off the fifth against Jordan Ramsey to tie the game and Kurt Wertz gave TU a 4-3 lead with a two-out round tripper to right. Towson added three runs in the sixth to make it 7-3.

Inside the numbers: TU went 4-for-11 with RISP and advanced runners 9-of-14 opportunities … Nowottnick, a righthander, held UNCW lefties to 1-for-9 at the plate … UNCW landed its leadoff hitter on base in 6-of-9 innings … UNCW stranded nine runners on base.
