Payne McLeod, Junior, Reidsville, N.C./Reidsville
- McLeod followed up his first collegiate tournament win with a fourth-place finish and his 12th career top-10 finish for the Seahawks at the Irish Creek Collegiate. McLeod (71-69-72-212) tied for fourth overall along with NC State’s Albin Choi, the NCAA’s fifth-ranked golfer according to Golfstat.com. For McLeod, who leads the Seahawks with a 72.9 stroke average and was the league’s top golfer in the last Golfstat.com report, it was his fourth top-10 of the year.
Payne McLeod continued his climb in the UNCW record books with his 12th career top-10 finish ranking him fourth all-time at UNCW … McLeod also moved to nearly a full stroke ahead of Josh Brock (72.99) for the program’s all-time scoring average lead at 72.90 … McLeod (72.5) is also a half stroke behind Brock (72.0 in 2010-11) in single-season stroke average this season … Thomas Bass also moved to within two rounds of becoming the 12th Seahawk to play 100 rounds in a career … Stefan Brewer gave the Seahawks a pair of counting one-over-73 rounds at the Irish Creek Collegiate.
The Seahawks head to Southport, N.C., later this month when they defend their CAA Championship at St. James Plantation on Apr. 26-28.
