BROWNS SUMMIT, North Carolina – The UNCW women’s golf team carded a team total 311 in the first round of the Bryan National Collegiate Friday on the Champions Course of the Bryan Park Golf and Enrichment Center.

The Seahawks are in 16th place following the opening round, four shots back of 15th-place Florida State (307) and five strokes off the pace of 14th-place Tennessee (306).

No. 15 Virginia holds the team lead after 18 holes with an opening round total of seven-under-par 281, five shots ahead of second place No. 7 Vanderbilt (286). No. 6 Arkansas and No. 9 UNC Chapel Hill are tied for third at six-over-par 294.  

Junior Lori Beth Adams carded a two-over-par 74 to earn a share of 24th place and pace the Seahawks during Friday’s opening round. Sophomore Mattie Tobey finished two shots back of Adams with an opening round 76 and is part of a tie of an 11-player deadlock for 45th. Sophomore Mallory Warrick (79/T-72nd), senior Danielle Lamy (82/T-82nd) and junior Megan Burnham (85/89th) completed UNCW’s entry.

Virginia’s Elizabeth Brightwell carded a four-under-par 68 to take a one-shot lead over Vanderbilt’s    Rene Sobolewski (69). The Cavaliers duo of Brittany Altomare and Briana Mao are two strokes back of Brightwell in a tie for third at two-under-par 70.

Second round action at the Bryan National Collegiate is scheduled to begin Saturday at 8:30 a.m. The Seahawks will begin play at 9:50 a.m. on hole No. 10.
