WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Mother Nature tried several times to put her mark on UNCW’s outdoor schedule and this weekend she was successful. The Seahawks will now compete in the Winthrop Invitational in Rock Hill, S.C., beginning on Friday.

The Seahawks were to compete in the fifth annual Beaches Vs. Mountains meet, but snow fall in Boone, N.C., forced the Seahawks to change their travel plans.

UNCW is coming off a solid performance at the Weems Baskin Invitational last weekend in Columbia, S.C, as the Seahawks fought through tough weather conditions.

Sophomore Hailey Blackburn won the 100 meters for her first win of the outdoor season. Blackburn had finished the indoor season with consecutive 60 meter wins. Competing alongside Blackburn in this weekend will be junior Meena Reid, who is ranked 17th in the east in the 100 meters and 26th in the 200. Earlier this season, Reid broke her own record in the 100 meters with a time of 11.68 seconds.

UNCW’s highest ranked individual Aerial Chatman, will compete in the Triple Jump where he is sixth in the East with a season-best mark of 49-9.75 feet, set at the Shamrock Invitational.

Rounding out UNCW’s regionally-ranked athletes is senior Jeremy Johnson, who is 22nd in the 100 meters (10.60).
