CAA Player of the Week Nominee: Ryan LaGrange, Junior, IF, Wilmington, N.C./E.A. Laney

- LaGrange led the Seahawks with a .471 (8-17) batting average on the week as the Seahawks won all five of their games, including a sweep of Georgia State. In five games, LaGrange doubled and homered, scored six runs and knocked in eight. He posted a .706 slugging average and a .545 on base average. He also stole a base. He had two hits in four different games and knocked in three runs in the series opener against GSU.

CAA Pitcher of the Week Nominee: Mat Batts, RS-Jr., LHP, Winston-Salem, N.C./Mount Tabor (Western Carolina)

- Batts shutout the leading offense in the league in Georgia State, which ranked second nationally in batting average, on four hits. He struck out seven and did not walk a batter on the afternoon. It was his second career complete game and his first career shutout.

CAA Rookie of the Week: Terence Connelly, Fr., Inf., Garden City, N.Y./Chaminade

-  Connelly continued his torrid stretch at the plate, hitting .462 on the week and posting a staggering .682 on base average thanks in part to a team-high seven walks. Connelly has now reached safely in 16 consecutive games. Keying the Seahawks in the lower third of the order, he scored seven runs and knocked in five as UNCW outscored its opponents, 53-18.

Record Watch: Hunter Ridge became UNCW’s all-time hits leader with an infield single against Charleston Southern. Ridge now has 264 career hits entering the week.

Streaks: Michael Bass extended his hitting streak to 20 games and his on base streak to 26 … Ryan LaGrange had his career-long hitting streak halted at 11 games … Connelly, meanwhile, has reached safely in 16 games and LaGrange in 13.

Bullpen Update: Relievers Kelly Secrest and Justin Livengood lowered their ERA’s to 1.83 and 2.61, respectively. Secrest upped his strikeout total to 24 in 19.2 innings while Livengood had 20 in 10.1 innings. Both have one save on the season.

Walk-offs, Both Ways: With Saturday’s win over GSU, it marked the third time the Seahawks have won a game in the bottom of the ninth. Previous wins were in the season opener against Kent State, 7-6, on a leadoff homer by Tyler Molinaro and against Stony Brook on a one-out roundtripper by Ryan LaGrange. The Seahawks, though, have been stung twice in the bottom of the ninth, losing by identical scores of 7-6 at Charleston Southern and College of Charleston. Both times Ricky Holden hit a batter with the bases loaded.

Notes: While Batts was more than impressive against Georgia State, sophomore Jordan Ramsey also stymied the Panthers, allowing a run on five hits over eight innings. He struck out a career-high eight and did not walk a batter on the afternoon … Ramsey’s ERA dropped to 1.70 and he owns a 0.74 ERA in his last five starts … In Friday’s doubleheader, UNCW pitchers did not walk a batter and held GSU to a .148 batting average … The Seahawks have scored nine or more runs in each of their six games in their current six-game winning streak … Freshman Christian Wolfe came off the bench to hit .556 (5-for-9) on the week with five RBI’s … UNCW out-hit opponents, .361-201, on the week … Every starter last week hit .350 or better, including Drew Farber, who added eight RBI’s … Blaze Tart earned his second key mid-week win with a strong start against East Carolina, allowing one run on four hits and a pair of walks in 5 and 2/3 innings … Seahawk hitters drew 27 walks last week combined and struck out just 26 times.
