CAA Player of the Week Nominee: Michael Bass, Sr., Inf., Fairmont, N.C./Fairmont
- Bass led the Seahawks to an impressive 3-1 week with hitting .625 with six runs scored and seven knocked in. He also posted a .700 OBA and a .875 slugging percentage. Against Coastal Carolina, he launched his team-leading and career-high fourth homer, a three-run shot, that tied the game and ignited the Seahawks to score the next eight runs and take control of the game. Bass extended his hitting streak to a career-high 15 game and his one base streak to 21 games. In two games against JMU, he hit .714, scored three times and knocked in three.
CAA Pitcher of the Week Nominee: Blaze Tart, RS-Jr., RHP, Durham, N.C./Pendleton Prep
- Tart pitched the Seahawks to the first of two big midweek wins with a tremendous outing against 2012 NCAA tournament participant Elon. Tart went seven innings, allowed three runs, all unearned, on four hits and a pair of walks. He finished with six strikeouts and held the Phoenix to a .160 batting average.
CAA Rookie of the Week: Terence Connelly, Fr., Inf., Garden City, N.Y./Chaminade
- Connelly hit an even .400 on the week in four games. With five walks, he finished the week with a .625 OBA. He scored four runs to key the bottom of the lineup for the Seahawks.
Record Watch: Head Coach Mark Scalf (702-542-1) captured his 700th win as the Seahawks topped visiting Elon, 7-3, in a key midweek RPI game ... Hunter Ridge (255 hits) is six hits away from becoming UNCW's all-time hits leader.
Streaks: Michael Bass extended his hitting streak to 15 games and his on-base streak to 21, dating back to last season ... Bass is hitting .491 (27-55) during his hitting streak with 20 runs scored and 14 knocked in ... Bass is 10-for-10 this season in stolen bases ... Terence Connelly has reached base in 11 consecutive games and owns a season-long six-game hitting streak.
A look at the bullpen: The Seahawks have had four solid relievers this season, led by senior RHP Jack Lane, who stands 6-foot 10. In a team-high 10 appearances, Lane has allowed just one run in six innings (1.50 ERA) and held opponents to a .118 batting average. Junior RHP Ricky Holden (3-1) has posted an ERA of 1.69 and fanned 12 in 10 and 2/3 innings while junior southpaw Kelly Secrest (1-1) has fanned 18 hitters in 15 innings. Rounding out the top four is senior righthander Justin Livengood (0-1) with a 2.08 ERA in six appearances. In 8 and 2/3 innings, Livengood has fanned 16 batters.
Notes: Jordan Ramsey earned his second straight win with a gutsy six-inning effort against James Madison in a series-tying 9-1 win on Saturday ... Ramsey scattered 10 hits, allowed one run, walked two and fanned five ... In his last 28 and 2/3 innings, Ramsey owns a 0.38 ERA ... Ryan LaGrange continues to have success this season, extending his hitting streak to a career-long eight games ... Last week LaGrange hit and even .500 (7-for-14) with five runs scored and five knocked in ... For the season, LaGrange is hitting .400 with 11 runs batted in while starting 11 games at third base ... Behind the plate, Drew Farber moved into a tie for the team-lead with 16 RBI's after driving in seven runs last week ... Tyler Molinaro batted .467 last week.
