Bass Now The Biggest Fish In The Lineup (Brian Mull, Wilmington Star News)
HARRISONBURG,
Virginia - UNCW heads into Colonial Athletic Association play this weekend
when it opens defense of its conference title against the Dukes of James
Madison. The series opens on Friday with a 6:30 p.m. first pitch.
The Seahawks carry a five-game winning streak into the
series following a midweek sweep of Elon and Coastal Carolina. Against Elon it
was the strong arm of Blaze Tart that carried the Seahawks past the Phoenix,
7-3. But it was the bats that lifted UNCW to a 13-7 over CCU as the Seahawks
erased an early 3-0 deficit to post the win. Tyler Molinaro collected a
career-high four hits, including his fourth homer of the season.
The Dukes, meanwhile, are the hottest team in the league
with an eight-game winning streak entering the weekend. JMU opened its
conference slate last weekend with a three-game sweep of Hofstra, who was
picked second in the preseason poll.
UNCW will use the same rotation its used all season with Mat
Batts opening the season followed by Jordan Ramsey and Christian MacDonald on
Saturday and Sunday, respectively. Seahawk pitcher have fashioned a
league-leading 3.46 earned run average.
The Dukes will be looking to avenge a sweep at the hands of
the Seahawks last season in Wilmington. That sweep sparked the Seahawks to a
24-6 record and CAA regular season and tournament titles.
