WILMINGTON, North Carolina - UNCW returns to action this weekend when its hosts the eighth annual Battle of the Beaches meet on Mar. 3, at the Greene Track & Field Complex in its outdoor season opener.

The Seahawks and Coastal Carolina will compete for the eighth time in a men's dual meet while The Citadel will also compete, but not as part of the Battle of the Beaches. Coastal and The Citadel will also compete in a women's meet, but that meet won't be scored.

Returning for the Seahawks are NCAA qualifiers David Lindsay and Aerial Chatman, who competed in the 110 Hurdles and Triple/Long Jumps, respectively. Lindsay placed 34th in his event while Chatman finished 19th in the Long Jump and 27th in the Triple Jump.

Also returning for the Seahawks on the women's side is junior Meena Reid, who is coming off another productive indoor season. Reid set UNCW records in the 60 and 200 meters during the indoor season. In a rare event, her time in the indoor 200 meters time (24.35) is better than her time (24.39) in the outdoor, which is one of two sprint records she owns.

Also returning for the women and coming into the outdoor season on the heels of her best indoor season is sophomore Hailey Blackburn. She won the 60 meters in each her last two indoor events, including a winning time of 7.52 seconds at the Penn State Challenge, which ranks second all-time at UNCW.

The Seahawks lead Coastal Carolina, 4-3, in the all-time series after 2012 was cancelled due to rain. In 2011, UNCW edged the Chanticleers, 113-92, to take the lead in the annual dual meet.

UNCW will also host its second and final home meet on Mar. 8-9, at the Greene Complex. The UNCW Seahawk Invitational will include North Dakota and Northeastern.
