WILMINGTON, North Carolina - UNCW tallied 10 runs in the bottom of the fifth to cruise past UMBC, 14-4, in action in the UNCW Seahawk Clash tournament Sunday at Boseman Field. The Seahawks were unable to complete the doubleheader sweep, falling to Gardner-Webb, 4-2, in the nightcap.

Against the Retrievers, UNCW exploded for 10 runs on five hits, capped by a grand slam from sophomore Casey Rowland, in the bottom of the fifth to break a 4-all tie and evoke the eight-run rule.

Earlier in the contest, UMBC held a 3-0 lead when the Seahawks took advantage of a wild pitch, two hit batters and a fielder's choice in the bottom of the fourth to plate four runs and take a 4-3 lead.

The Retrievers knotted the score, 4-all, in the top of the fifth on a run-scoring single by Hall, setting up the Seahawks outburst in the bottom half of the frame.

Sophomore Jordyn Schmidt picked up the win for the Seahawks in the circle as she improved to 3-1 on the season. Schmidt allowed four runs (three earned) on eight hits and two walks in five innings of work. She struck out three.

Versus Gardner-Webb, UNCW struck in the bottom of the first as Brown reached base on a fielder's choice and later scored on a wild pitch to give a Seahawks an early 1-0 lead.

The Runnin' Bulldogs would take the lead in the top of the second, using a wild pitch and run-scoring singles from junior Samantha Meenaghan and junior Morgan Baker to build a 3-1 advantage.

UNCW would cut the Gardner-Webb lead in half in the bottom of the second, using a run-scoring single from freshman Taylor Matkins to make it a 3-2 contest.

Sophomore Kellie Beres would close out the scoring in the fourth, restoring the Runnin' Bulldogs two-run advantage with her single to left field that brought home sophomore Taylar Pridgen and made a 4-2 game.

Beres was 3-for-4 with a RBI while Meenaghan and Pridgen tallied two hits apiece to highlight a Gardner-Webb lineup that finished with 11 base knocks.

Junior Ashley Rhyne picked up the win in the circle for the Runnin' Bulldogs as she improved to 1-2 on the season. Rhyne allowed two runs on four hits and three walks in seven innings in the circle. She struck out seven.
