WILMINGTON, North
Carolina - UNCW head men's soccer coach Aidan Heaney has announced the
additions of William Clark, Kellen Foster and Freddy Nzekele to his program for
the 2013-14 year.
"I am really pleased not only with the quality of our
incoming class, but how they might compliment the returning players next
season. With such a young team returning, a group I have high expectations of,
we had specific needs to address and believe this group can fulfill those
needs. I feel their ambition matches ours that they will compete and be
committed to winning"
William Clark
(Milford, Mich./Brighton) is a defender/midfielder and
UNCW's first ever recruit from the state of Michigan. Clark exploded
offensively for Brighton his sophomore and junior seasons, totaling 28 goals
and 15 assists. As a junior, he was named third-team All-State as well as being
honored as County Player-of-the-Year for the Bulldogs. Clark plays for the Vardar
SC Freiburg Academy and helped the team to the USSDA Academy Finals in 2011 and
2012. His uncle Mike Clark played at Indiana and was a third-team All-America
in 1994 before playing eight seasons with the Columbus Crew of Major League
Soccer. William's sister Madi competes in Equestrian at the University of
Georgia.
"Will is a technically clean yet hardnosed player, who has
the ability of playing a number of positions. We were able to get a good sense
of his potential when he joined us for summer camp, and I believe he can
continue his growth and development here at UNCW."
Kellen Foster (Cary,
N.C./Green Hope) is a central midfielder and continues UNCW's strong
connection to the state's capital region. He is a TopDrawerSoccer.com Class of
2013 - 4 star recruit and rated the #16 player in the South Atlantic Region.
Foster captains the CASL Chelsea FC Academy team and helped the team to the
USSDA Academy Finals in 2011 and 2012.
In 2011, Kellen led the Green Hope Falcons to a #1 state ranking at the
4-A level and then finished the season with a national ranking of seventh after
winning the 4A state title. He was honored as an All-State selection.
"Kellen is one of the premier players coming out of North Carolina
this year. He is Mr. Consistent, is a very smart soccer player, tactically
astute, and reads the game extremely well. He has excellent leadership
qualities and is someone who will impact our program immediately. Kellen is a
true competitor who will make himself and those around him better."
Freddy Nzekele
(Silver Spring, Md./Chevy Chase) is a forward who hails from the mid-atlantic
region. Nzekele earned All-Met honors three times entering his senior year, in
which he'll serve as the team's captain. In three seasons, he
notched 35 goals and assisted on 12. Nzekele currently plays for AC Bethesda
on the club level, which includes Freddy Adu on its alumni list. On the
national level, he has played in the U.S. U15 National Pool. Nzekele also had
the opportunity to train with FC Metz, a football club in France's Ligue 2.
While playing soccer for Chevy Chase, Freddy was also one of the nation's top
sprinters last spring, specializing in the 300 meters.
"Freddy is an exciting forward blessed with speed and will
add another dimension to our team next season. His pace and movement will allow
us the opportunity to stretch the game and pose opponents problems. He has a
huge upside as far as his potential. Along with the attacking players we have
returning, I am really looking forward to seeing what Freddy and this group can
do as an attacking force."
