WILMINGTON, North Carolina - The UNCW women's basketball team continues a busy stretch of four games in eight days Tuesday when it hosts Hofstra in a 7 p.m. Colonial Athletic Association contest at Trask Coliseum.

Seahawk Storylines

• The Seahawks (2-17, 1-7 CAA) are back home after suffering a 62-55 defeat at Old Dominion on Sunday.
• Three players - seniors Tawanna Lee and Karneshia Garrett and sophomore Dana Brown - tallied 13 points each to pace UNCW, but the Lady Monarchs rode a 19-point, 17-rebound effort from sophomore Shae Kelley to the seven-point victory. Garrett and fellow senior Chelsea McGowen both grabbed 10 rebounds each as Garrett posted her third straight double-double.
• UNCW has struggled to rebound the basketball this season as it ranks 11th in the CAA and 308th in the NCAA in rebounding margin (-6.6). The Seahawks have been out-rebounded by their opponent in all but four of its 19 games this season and have been out-rebounded by an average of 9.8 boards per game during its current six-game losing skid.
• The Seahawks have made it hard for the opposition to make shots from the field this season as opponents are making just 38.2 percent (453-of-1187) of their tries from the field this season, representing the fourth-best field goal percentage defense in program history. Of UNCW's 19 opponents this season, only six (Liberty, NKU, North Carolina A&T, William & Mary, Drexel and ODU) have shot better than 40 percent from the field against UNCW.
• UNCW has struggled to shoot the basketball this season, ranking 10th in the CAA and 268th nationally in field goal percentage, making just 36.2 percent (369-of-1019) of its attempts from the floor this season. The Seahawks have shot better than 40 percent from the floor in just five of 19 games this season, including three of their last seven contests (William & Mary, Drexel and Towson).
• Senior forward Karneshia Garrett has been a force to be reckoned with on the glass this season as she enters Sunday's contest ranked 30th in the nation in rebounds per game (10.6). She has grabbed double-digit rebounds in 10 of 18 games played this season, highlighted by a pair of 18-rebound performances at Wake Forest (Nov. 14) and against North Carolina Central (Nov. 28). She has pulled down double-digit boards in each of the past three games, recording a double-double in each contest.
• Garrett has also picked up her point production in recent games, averaging 13.3 points in the Seahawks' last six contests. Garrett is shooting 52.8 percent (33-of-63) from the field during that stretch as she has reached double figures in all six of those contests, highlighted by a 17-point effort against William & Mary on Thursday.
• Junior guard Jessica Freeman leads the team in scoring (10.2) and steals (2.3) and ranks third in assists (2.3). Freeman has served as an iron-woman of sorts for the Seahawks, having played all 40 minutes in eight games this season, including seven of the last 10 contests. She ranks second in the league in minutes played per game (36.5).
• Freshman Dana Brown has been in a rhythm offensively in recent games, averaging 12.7 points over the last three contests. Brown has reached double figures in all three of those games, shooting 42.9 percent (12-of-28) from the floor in those games, including 42.1 percent (8-of-19) from three-point range, as well as 85.7 percent (6-of-7) from the charity stripe.

Scouting Hofstra

• Winners of eight of its last 11 contests, Hofstra (9-10; 5-3 CAA) will attempt to return to the win column following a 79-63 setback at No. 25 Delaware Sunday.
• The Pride is led by senior forward Shante Evans. Evans ranks third in the CAA in scoring (17.3) and paces the circuit in rebounding (11.3). She leads the league with 11 double-doubles, including double-double performances each of the past four contests.
• Junior Anma Onyeuku provides scoring depth to the Hofstra lineup, averaging 10.1 points per game. Onyeuku currently leads the CAA in field goal percentage, having knocked down 60 percent (42-of-70) tries from the field this season.
• Sophomore Andreana Thomas has served as the quarterback of the Pride attack, averaging a league-best 6.0 assists per game. Thomas recorded double-digit assists on four occasions this season, highlighted by a season-high 13 assist effort in Hofstra's 83-72 victory against Old Dominion on Jan. 20.
• Krista Kilburn Steveskey is in her seventh season as head coach of the Hofstra program. She has led the Pride to five winning seasons and three postseason appearances during her time in Hempstead.

Series Notes Versus Hofstra

• Tuesday's contest marks the 23rd meeting between Hofstra and UNCW. All 22 previous contests have come since the Pride joined the CAA for the 2001-02 season.
• The Seahawks hold a 12-10 lead in the series following a split of their two matchups a season ago as Hofstra posted a 66-55 victory at home in their lone regular season meeting before the Seahawks eliminated the Pride, 94-87, in the quarterfinals of the CAA Championship.
• UNCW holds a 7-3 edge in 10 previous contests against Hofstra at Trask Coliseum. The Seahawks have won three of the last four meetings between the two programs in the Port City, including their most recent matchup, a 65-42 triumph on Jan. 27, 2011.

Old Dominion Recap

UNCW moved to 2-17 overall and 1-7 in CAA play with a 62-55 setback at Old Dominion on Sunday.

• Trailing 42-31 at the 14:48 mark of the second half, ODU went on a 23-9 spurt that lasted just over eight minutes and put the Lady Monarchs in front, 54-51. ODU would relinquinsh its lead moments later, but used buckets on three straight possessions in the final minutes to regain the lead for good.
• Sophomore Shae Kelley scored 19 points and added 17 rebounds to power an ODU lineup that made just 20 of 64 field goal attempts (.313) for the game, including just 2-of-15 (.133) attempts from beyond the arc.
• Three players - seniors Tawanna Lee and Karneshia Garrett and sophomore Dana Brown - tallied 13 points each to pace UNCW. Garrett and fellow senior Chelsea McGowen pulled down 10 rebounds apiece to lead the Seahawks' effort on the glass.
• Garrett posted her third straight double-double and seventh of the season as she recorded double figures in both categories for the 10th time this season.
• Both Lee and Brown reached double figures in points for the third straight contest. It is the longest stretch of conseutive double-digit scoring performances for both players this season.
• Old Dominion held a 46-42 edge on the glass as UNCW was outrebounded for the 15th time this season. The Seahawks moved to 0-15 this season when being out-rebounded by its opponent.
• UNCW lost its third straight contest when holding a lead at halftime as it moved to 1-4 this season and 68-21 since the start of the 2007-08 season when holding an advantage at halftime.
• The Seahawks suffered their second straight loss when holding a double-digit lead as they moved to 2-2 this season and 69-9 since the start of the 2007-08 season when holding a double figure lead during a contest.
• The two teams combined for 54 points in the paint as UNCW held a 30-24 advantage in that category.
• UNCW committed more than 20 turnovers in a contest for the fifth time this season as they finished with 21 miscues. ODU ended the game with 14 turnovers as the two teams combined for 34 points off turnovers (ODU 20, UNCW 14).
• ODU's bench out-scored the Seahawks' reserves by a 19-6 margin. It marked the 12th time this season that UNCW's bench has scored fewer points than its opponents.
• The Seahawks 34 points in the first half represented a new season high in that category, eclipsing the old mark of 32 set against NCCU on Nov. 28.
• Both teams shot better than 70 percent at the free-throw line as UNCW was 12-of-17 (.706) while ODU made 20-of-27 (.741) tries at the stripe.

Half-Dollar Defense

The Seahawks are 53-0 since the start of the 2002-03 campaign when limiting the opposition to 50 points or less.

• UNCW held its first opponent to 50 points or less during the Adell Harris era with a 59-45 victory over North Carolina Central on Nov. 28. The win also marked the first time the Seahawks had limited its opposition to fewer than 50 points since a 76-47 victory at Towson on Feb. 24, 2011.
• The last time the Seahawks lost a game in which they held their opponent to less than 50 points was a 49-44 setback at rival Campbell on Nov. 17, 2001.

Interstate 70

UNCW is 69-8 (.896) since the start of the 2000-01 campaign when it scores 70 or more points in a contest.

• The Seahawks were 10-1 in 2011-12 and are 23-2 since the start of the 2010-11 season when reaching the 70-point plateau.
• UNCW's last loss when scoring 70 or more points came in a 79-73 setback to Appalachian State in the first round of the Postseason WNIT last March.

Getting Off To a Good Start important for UNCW

The Seahawks are 68-21 (.764) since the start of the 2007-08 season when leading at halftime.

• UNCW is 1-4 this season when holding a halftime advantage. Three of the Sehawks four losses under such circumstances this season have come in games where their halftime advantage was three points or less (25-24 vs. Charlotte; 30-27 at Towson; 33-32 vs. William & Mary).
• On the flip side, the Seahawks are just 21-64 (.247) since 2007-08 and just 1-13 this season when trailing at intermission. UNCW picked up its first win under such circumstances in 2012-13 with its victory at William & Mary, overcoming a 23-22 halftime deficit to pick up the win.

Double-Digit Dominance

UNCW has benefitted from building big leads in recent years as it is a combined 69-7 (.908) since the start of the 2007-08 season when it holds a lead of 10 points or more during a contest.

• The Seahawks are 2-2 this season under such circumstances. Each of the Seahawks last two losses have come after UNCW has held a double-digit lead in both games (11 vs. William & Mary; 12 at Old Dominion).
• The Seahawks have struggled to overcome big deficits in that same timeframe, posting an 12-71 (.145) mark during games in which they have trailed by 10 points or more. Nine of those 12 victories, however, have come since the start of the 2010-11 season, including their 61-52 victory at William & Mary on Jan. 8 that saw the Seahawks erase a 14-point deficit in the second half on their way to victory.

Youth Movement

According to research conducted by the athletic communications department at St. John's University, UNCW Head Coach Adell Harris is one of the youngest Division I head coaches in the country.

• Harris is the 10th youngest head coach in the nation based on birth date, having celebrated her 32nd birthday on May 1, just two days before accepting the head coaching position at UNCW.
• Harris is the youngest coach in the CAA, but not the youngest in the state of North Carolina. That honor goes to High Point Head Coach DeUnna Hendrix. The 28-year-old is in her first season as head coach of the Panthers.

Harris, McGowen Reunited

When UNCW Head Coach Adell Harris took over the Seahawks program last May, she was already familiar with one player on her new roster from her time at Tusculum College.

• Harris coached current UNCW senior Chelsea McGowen at Tusculum during the 2009-10 season.
• Together the duo combined to lead the Pioneers to a 23-10 overall record, the South Atlantic Conference Tournament championship and an appearance in the NCAA Elite Eight.
• McGowen averaged 2.1 points and 1.7 rebounds during her freshman season before transferring to Brunswick Community College for the 2011-12 campaign.

Freeman, Lee Making Their Way Up school's Three-Point Chart

Senior Tawanna Lee and redshirt junior Jessica Freeman are both making their way up the school's career three-point field goals made chart.

• Freeman currently sits tied for 7th place on the all-time list with 90 three-pointers made while Lee is in 11th place with 80 treys made.
• Freeman surpassed Katy Walters for 10th place on the school's career three-point field goals made list (79) with her three made trifectas in UNCW's game at Northern Kentucky on Dec. 20. Freeman enters today's game tied with Jeri Lynn Coker for sole possession of seventh place on the all-time list.
• Lee, meanwhile, is just three 3-pointes shy of matching Treasure Johnson for 10th place (83).
• Both players have been consistent from beyond the arc during their careers, with Lee sixth (.346) and Freeman 10th (.327) on the squad's chart for career three-point field goal percentage. Freeman led the league in three-point field goal percentage in 2011-12 (.414), while Lee ranks ninth on the circuit this season in that category (.366).

Hail To the Thief

Junior guard Jessica Freeman recently moved into the top 10 of the program's career steals chart.

• Currently in ninth place on the program's all-time steals chart, Freeman entered the top 10 on Jan. 31, recording five steals against William & Mary to surpass Johnnie Smith to gain entry on the the school's all-time thefts chart.
• Freeman enters today's contest with 168 career steals and needs 10 thefts to catch Cindy Makowski for eighth place on the all-time list (178).
• Thievery is nothing new for the Charlotte, N.C. native as Freeman ranked sixth in the league in steals in 2011-12 (2.2). She currently ranks fourth among all league players in that category (2.4).

Seahawks Tabbed Seventh, Garrett Preseason Honorable Mention

UNCW was picked to finish seventh overall during the upcoming 2012-13 season and senior forward Karneshia Garrett was a Honorable Mention Preseason All-CAA selection.

• The Seahawks and George Mason were selected to finish seventh in a vote of the league's 11 head coaches, ahead of Towson, William & Mary and Georgia State.
• Delaware was picked to repeat as regular-season champion while James Madison was tabbed to finish second. Hofstra was picked third, followed by Drexel, Old Dominion, Northeastern, UNCW and George Mason (tie), Towson and William & Mary (tie) and Georgia State.
• Garrett earned Honorable Mention Preseason All-CAA accolades after appearing in 32 games and making 21 starts during her first season with the program in 2011-12. She averaged 9.8 points and 7.5 rebounds while pacing the team with six double-doubles.

Seahawks Announce Signing Class

UNCW head women's basketball coach Adell Harris announced the signing of D'Asia Cain (Smynra, Ga./Campbell), Ryan Flowers (Raleigh, N.C./Millbrook) and Johanna McMillan (Mullica Hill, N.J./Sanford) to National Letters-of-Intent during the early signing period.

• D'Asia Cain averaged 7.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 4.0 assists per game during her junior season in helping lead Campbell to a regional championship and State Final Four appearance. She was Named MVP of the Campbell Holiday Classic last season.
• Ryan Flowers Led Millbrook to the 2011-12 Class 4A state championship, earning Most Outstanding Player accolades during the championship game. She averaged 14.0 points and 10.0 rebounds per game during junior season and is a Two-time All-Capital 8 selection. Flowers led the Wildcats to Class 4A state runner-up finish as a sophomore and was a 2011 Regional All-Tournament Team selection.
• Johanna McMillan is ranked as a top 100 prospect for her position by ESPN.com. She was an Honorable Mention All-State selection following a junior season that saw her average 11.3 points, 3.6 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.5 steals per game. a Two-time All-Conference selection (First-team 2011-12 and Second-Team 2010-11) she has led Sanford to back-to-back DIAA State Championships (2010 & 11) and a runner-up finish in the 2012 championship. She has also helped the Warriors capture three straight D.I.S.C. titles.
