STATE COLLEGE, Pa. -
Competing against some of the top track programs in the Northeast and Middle
Atlantic regions brought out the best in UNCW as Tommy Schotzinger, Meena Reid
and Ryan O'Connor set school records on Saturday at the Sykes-Sabock Challenge
Cup.
The Seahawks tied for ninth in the women's meet while the
men placed 10th.
Schotzinger was one of 14 scoring performances for UNCW on
the meet and set a UNCW freshman record in the 600 meters with a sixth-place
time of 1:21.25.
Reid set a new school standard in the 200 meters when she
finished second in a time of 24.35 seconds. It was UNCW's best finish of the
meet. For Reid, it was her second school record in as many meets this season
after setting the 60 meter record last weekend.
In the 800 meters, O'Connor took third with a school-record
time of 1:49.66. He was the first Seahawk to break the 1:50 mark.
Reid also added a third-place finish in the 60 meters and
nearly broke her own record in the even when she posted a time of 7.49, missing
by .01 of tying her record. Sophomore
Hailey Blackburn finished fourth in the 60 meters for UNCW.
John Riemer gave UNCW a fourth-place showing in the 2000m
SC.
In the field events, junior Aerial Chatman and sophomore Cam
Walton finished third and eighth, respectively, in the Long Jump.
Senior Kyle Barbour scored in the Weight Throw with an
eighth-place finish.
Sophomore Emily Kimble jumped 5-5 to place seventh in the
High Jump and senior Johnique Fonville was eighth in the Triple Jump.
UNCW visits Clemson, S.C., next weekend, Feb 8-9, for the
Tiger Paw Invitational.
