WILMINGTON, North
Carolina - UNCW closes out its dual meet season this weekend when it hosts
in-state foe NC State at 1 p.m. on Saturday at the Seahawk Natatorium.
The meet also will be Senior Day for the Seahawks, who will
honor 12 seniors for their time and efforts with the program during their
studies at UNCW.
UNCW enters the weekend coming off a sweep of Wingate last
weekend in impressive fashion. Both teams combined to win 17 events, including
a clean sweep of the relays.
Senior Carly Tanner led the Seahawks with a pair of
individual and relay wins. She was named CAA Co-Swimmer-of-the-Week for her
efforts. It was the third time this season she earned the weekly award. Tanner
currently paces the conference with the top time in the 50 Free (23.06) and
second in the 100 Free (51.29).
Joe Gallene, meanwhile, ranks second in the conference in
both the 50 and 100 Free events with times of 20.60 and 45.58 seconds,
respectively. Valterri Halonen tops the circuit with a time of 1:48.25 in the
200 Backstroke.
The Seahawk women host Campbell in the final dual meet of
the season on Feb. 2.
