WILMINGTON, North Carolina - The UNCW women's basketball team plays just its second home game of the regular season Wednesday as it hosts Charlotte in a 5 p.m. contest at Trask Coliseum.

Basketball Doubleheader At The Coliseum

Wednesday's matchup with the 49ers will serve as the first half of a doubleheader with the Seahawk men's team, who will host Coker in the nightcap at 8 p.m.

Ticket Promotions

Wednesday's game will serve as a "Toys for Tots" contest. Any fan that brings a new, unwrapped toy to the game will be able to purchase a ticket for just $5. All tickets for the women's game will also accepted for the men's contest.

Seahawk Storylines

►UNCW squares off against an in-state opponent for the fourth time in five games with its matchup against Charlotte on Wednesday. The Seahawks have enjoyed moderate success against competition from the Tar Heel State in recent years, compiling a 16-11 mark against in-state foes since the start of the 2007-08 season. UNCW is 1-2 against in-state competition this season, suffering a 60-59 defeat at Wake Forest and a 67-61 setback at Elon in mid-November before knocking off NCCU, 59-45, for its first win of the season on Nov. 28.

►Senior Karneshia Garrett will look to continue her solid play on the glass during the early part of the season as she enters Wednesday's contest leading the CAA and ranking 11th in the nation in rebounds per game (12.2). Garrett has grabbed double-digit rebounds in three of five games this season, highlighted by a pair of 18-rebound performances at Wake Forest (Nov. 14) and against North Carolina Central (Nov. 28)

►The Seahawks are in the midst of a challenging non-conference slate in as seven of their 11 non-league opponents in 2012-13 qualified for postseason competition last season, including NCAA Tournament participants Liberty, Northern Kentucky and West Virginia. In addition, nine of those teams won 15 or more contests, with six of those teams - Liberty, Northern Kentucky, Richmond, Tulane, Wake Forest and West Virginia - all reaching the 20-win milestone.

Tulane Recap

UNCW moved to 1-4 on the season as it suffered a 73-58 setback at Tulane on Dec. 2.

►The Green Wave used a 22-6 run over a seven-minute stretch that spanned both halves to erase a two-point deficit and take control of the contest. The Seahawks pulled within seven midway through the second half, but a 14-2 spurt for Tulane would end the comeback attempt and give the Green Wave a double-figure advantage they would hold the rest of the way.

►UNCW shot above 40 percent from the floor for the second consecutive contest as it was 22-of-53 (.415) from the field. The Seahawks opened the season connecting on just 33.3 percent of its field-goal attempts in its first three games.

►Tulane posted a 50-37 advantage on the boards in the contest and enjoyed an 18-4 edge in second-chance points as it finished with 17 offensive rebounds. The Seahawks finished with a season-low five offensive boards.

►Tulane posted a 29-11 advantage in points off turnovers, highlighted by a 15-5 advantage in the first half.

►UNCW recorded a season-low three steals as Tulane committed just 10 turnovers.

►The Green Wave bench outscored the Seahawks reserves, 38-23. It was just the second time this season and the first time in four games that UNCW's bench as failed to out-score its counterparts.

►UNCW recorded double-figure assists for the second straight contest as it finished with 13 helpers.

►The Green Wave were 7-of-18 (.389) from three-point range for the contest while the Seahawks were just 5-of-22 (.227) from beyond the arc.

►UNCW shot below 60 percent from the free-throw line for the second straight contest as it was just 9-of-19 (.471) from the charity stripe. The Green Wave was just 12-of-19 (.632) from the line.

►Sunday's game marked the first contest for UNCW outside the eastern time zone since taking on South Carolina in Cancun, Mexico on Nov. 29, 2008.

►Junior Jessica Freeman led all players with 16 points; reaching double figures for the second time this season.

►Sophomore Kelva Atkins joined Freeman in double figures with 15 points as she matched her season in that category for the second straight contest. Atkins also established a new season high with eight rebounds to lead the team in that category. 

►Freshman Dana Brown got her first career start and matched her career high with 10 points.

►Sophomore Jovana Mandic tallied eight points and established a new career high with seven rebounds.

Scouting Charlotte

►Charlotte carries a 4-2 overall record into Wednesday's contest after suffering a 70-54 home setback to ACC-foe Florida State on Sunday.

►Senior Jennifer Hailey anchors a balanced 49ers attack that features three players in double figures with a 15.3 points per game average.

►Hailey also leads the team in rebounding, averaging 11.8 boards per contest to highlight a Charlotte lineup that has out-rebounded its opponents by an average of 13.7 caroms per game through six games.

►Fellow senior Amanda Dowe is second on the team in both scoring (14.0) and rebounding (10.7) to give the 49ers a second double-double threat in the post.

►Junior Ny Hammonds leads the nation in assists (4.7) to power a Charlotte lineup that has dished out an average of 16.2 assists per game this season. Hammonds also ranks first on the squad in steals (2.8).

►Cara Conseugra is in her second season with the 49ers program. She led the squad to a 16-14 overall record and a WNIT appearance in her first season in the Queen City.

Series History Versus Charlotte

In-state rivals UNCW and Charlotte square off for the 18th time on Wednesday in a series that dates back to the 1979 season.

►The two schools are meeting for the third consecutive season after having met just twice in the 18 seasons prior to the start of the 2010-11 campaign.

►The 49ers hold a 12-5 advantage in the all-time series and have held the edge of late with wins in five of the last six meetings between the two squads.

►The Seahawks snapped a five-game losing skid to the 49ers last December with a 74-73 come-from-behind victory at Halton Arena.

UNCW Against Charlotte At Home

UNCW holds a 3-5 all-time mark against Charlotte at home. The 49ers won the last meeting between the two programs in the Port City, recording a 66-50 triumph at Trask Coliseum on Dec. 2, 2010.

Youth Movement
According to research conducted by the athletic communications department at St. John's University, UNCW Head Coach Adell Harris is one of the youngest Division I head coaches in the country.

►Harris is the 10th youngest head coach in the nation based on birth date, having celebrated her 32nd birthday on May 1, just two days before accepting the head coaching position at UNCW. 

►Harris is the youngest coach in the CAA, but not the youngest in the state of North Carolina. That honor goes to High Point Head Coach DeUnna Hendrix. The 28-year-old is in her first season as head coach of the Panthers.               

►Harris will face a fellow coaching youngster when the Seahawks square off against Xavier in December as Musketeers' Head Coach Amy Waugh is the fifth-youngest head coach on the list at just 31 years old. 

Half-Dollar Defense

The Seahawks are 53-0 since the start of the 2002-03 campaign when limiting the opposition to 50 points or less.

►UNCW held its first opponent to 50 points or less during the Adell Harris era with a 59-45 victory over North Carolina Central on Nov. 28. The win also marked the first time the Seahawks had limited its opposition to fewer than 50 points since a 76-47 victory at Towson on Feb. 24, 2011.

►The last time the Seahawks lost a game in which they held their opponent to less than 50 points was a 49-44 setback at rival Campbell on Nov. 17, 2001.

Interstate 70

UNCW is 69-8 since the start of the 2000-01 campaign when it scores 70 or more points in a contest.

►The Seahawks were 10-1 in 2011-12 and are 23-2 since the start of the 2010-11 season when reaching the 70-point plateau.

The 20-20 Club

For second straight season and just the fourth time in program history, the UNCW women's basketball team reached the 20-win plateau in a single season in 2011-12.

►The Seahawks finished the campaign with a 20-13 overall mark as they  earned their 20th win of the 2011-12 campaign with an 94-87 victory over Hofstra in the quarterfinals of the 2012 CAA Women's Basketball Championship.

►The team's 20 wins in 201-12 marked the first time in school history that the program has enjoyed back-to-back 20 win seasons as the 2010-11 squad established a school record with 24 victories.

Freeman, Lee Making Their Way Up School's Three-Point Chart

Senior Tawanna Lee and redshirt junior Jessica Freeman are both making their way up the school's career three-point field goals made chart.

►Freeman currently sits tied for 12th place on the all-time list with 73 three-pointers made while Lee is 17th with 56 triples converted in her career.

►The duo are just six and 23 three-pointers away from matching Katy Walters for 10th place on the school's career three-point field goals made list (79).

►Both players have been consistent from beyond the arc during their careers, with Freeman 6th (.344) and Lee 7th (.341) on the squad's chart for career three-point field goal percentage. Freeman led the league in three-point field goal percentage last season (.414), while Lee was second on the squad (.336) in that category.

Harris, McGowen Reunited

When UNCW Head Coach Adell Harris took over the Seahawks program last May, she was already familiar with one player on her new roster from her time at Tusculum College.

►Harris coached current UNCW senior Chelsea McGowen at Tusculum during the 2009-10 season.

►Together the duo combined to lead the Pioneers to a 23-10 overall record, the South Atlantic Conference Tournament championship and an appearance in the NCAA Elite Eight.

►McGowen averaged 2.1 points and 1.7 rebounds during her freshman season before transfering to Brunswick Community College for the 2011-12 campaign.

Seahawks Tabbed Seventh, Garrett Preseason Honorable Mention

UNCW was picked to finish seventh overall during the upcoming 2012-13 season and senior forward Karneshia Garrett was a Honorable Mention Preseason All-CAA selection.

►The Seahawks and George Mason were selected to finish seventh in a vote of the league's 11 head coaches, ahead of Towson, William & Mary and Georgia State. 

►Delaware was picked to repeat as regular-season champion while James Madison was tabbed to finish second. Hofstra was picked third, followed by Drexel, Old Dominion, Northeastern, UNCW and George Mason (tie), Towson and William & Mary (tie) and Georgia State.

►Garrett earned Honorable Mention Preseason All-CAA accolades after appearing in 32 games and making 21 starts during her first season with the program in 2011-12. She averaged 9.8 points and 7.5 rebounds while pacing the team with six double-doubles.
