NEWARK, Delaware - Junior Katie Hank and freshman Katie Hillman combined for 23 kills and a .301 hitting percentage to lead Delaware to a 3-0 (25-19, 25-17, 25-20) victory over UNCW in Colonial Athletic Association volleyball action Saturday at the Bob Carpenter Center.

The Blue Hens improved to 15-13 overall and 9-3 in league play as they clinched the No. 2 seed for the 2012 CAA Volleyball Championship, scheduled for Nov. 15-17 at Towson University. The Seahawks, meanwhile, finished the 2012 season at 11-17 and 3-9.

"Offensively we got off to a slow start, but were able to stay close for most of the sets," said UNCW Head Coach Amy Bambenek. "Christi had an outstanding night and McKenzie was solid all around. Overall I felt the team came into this weekend with a fighting attitude and feel there are a lot of positives we can take away from this season."

Hank notched 12 kills and Hillman added 11 to power a Delaware attack that combined for 40 kills and a .216 hitting percentage. Freshman setter Mackenzie Olsen dished out 30 assists and added seven digs. Freshman Ariel Shonk tallied a match-high 17 digs while senior Alissa Aiker joined her in double figures with 10.

Junior Christi Laite recorded 10 kills for UNCW, who was limited to just 30 kills and a .075 hitting percentage. Senior Natalie Lahaie and freshman Victoria Phillips dished out 14 assists apiece. Junior Haley Collins tallied 13 digs while sophomore Morgan Kline notched nine. Sophomore McKenzie Keightley recorded a match best six total blocks and added seven kills.

Trailing 9-5 early in the first frame, a kill by freshman Chandler Bryant sparked the Blue Hens to a 10-2 spurt that would give them their first lead of the set, 15-11. The Seahawks would tally three straight points to end the run and pull within one, 15-14, but Delaware notched 10 of the final 14 points of the stanza to take a 25-19 victory.

The Blue Hens carried their momentum into the second set, racing out to an early 7-2 lead. The Seahawks would battle back, tallying 10 of the next 15 points to level the score at 12-all. The two sides would trade points until a kill by Lawrence with the score tied at 15-all ignited Delaware to a 10-2 run and a 25-17 victory.

UNCW held an 18-14 lead in the third set when a service error led the Blue Hens to score seven straight points and build a 21-18 cushion. The Seahawks would get within two, 22-20, moments later, only to see the Blue Hens scored three unanswered points to post a 25-20 victory and take the match.
