NEWARK, Delaware -
Valtteri Halonen and Joe Gallene won the 200 Backstroke and 100 Freestyle,
respectively, as UNCW topped both William & Mary and host Delaware on the final
day of the Colonial Athletic Association pod meet at the Rawstrom Natatorium.
UNCW's women's team dropped all three dual meets to W&M, James Madison and
UD.
Gallene, who also swam on UNCW's winning 400 Free Relay
squad, topped the field in the 100 with a time of 46.52 seconds, .06 seconds
faster than senior teammate Michael Williams (46.58), who took second.
Halonen, a sophomore, recorded the fastest time in the CAA
this season to win the 200 Backstroke. Halonen posted a time of 1:48.96 and
topped UD's Ryan Roberts, who finished second and previously held the league's
top time in the event.
Sophomore Hannah Stephenson completed a Seahawk sweep of the
200 Backstroke with a winning time of 2:03.19.
Senior Carly Tanner added a win in the 100 Free with a time
of 52.46, and giving UNCW a second event sweep on the afternoon.
The UNCW men closed out the meet with a win in the 400 Free
Relay with sophomore Nick Lowe and junior Gabe Thran joining Gallene and
Williams on the winning relay.
Gallene finished the two-day meet with a pair of events wins
and three relay victories.
Up next for the Seahawks is the Patriot Invitational, Nov.
15-17, host by George Mason.
