WILMINGTON, North
Carolina - Michael Bass knocked in three runs on two hits and the Blue
bullpen combined for five shutout innings as Blue finished off its sweep of
Teal with a 7-4 win in game six of the annual Blue-Teal World Series.
Junior Ricky Holden (2-0) earned the win with three innings
of relief while sophomore Ryan Mayhew picked up his fourth save of the series.
Teal built a 4-1 lead after four innings, but Blue drew even
with three runs in the fourth off losing pitcher junior Christian MacDonald
(0-2). Bass drove in all three runs with a bases-loaded double.
Blue plated the go-ahead run in the top of the fifth on a
RBI ground ball by senior Tyler Molinaro.
In the ninth, trailing 5-4, Teal looked to carry its one-run
deficit into the bottom of the inning, but senior Hunter Ridge lined a two-run
double off reliever Justin Livengood to push the lead to 7-4.
Holden allowed just two hits over three innings in relief of
starter Blaze Tart. Junior Kelly Secrest followed with 1 2/3 innings of shutout
baseball before making way for Mayhew.
Corey Dick drove in two runs for Teal in the third with a
double. No hitter in the Teal lineup had more than one hit.
Freshman relievers Will Shepley and Jared Gesell combined
for three scoreless innings on the mound for Teal in relief.
Ridge and junior Dillon Bass added two hits apiece for Blue.
