WILMINGTON, North
Carolina – The Seahawks head up I40 on Saturday for a trio of
dual meets against Florida State, Virginia Tech and host Duke. The meet begins
at 2 p.m. at the Taishoff Aquatic Pavilion.
UNCW's men's team while
face some stiff competition in nationally-ranked Florida State and Duke and
Virginia Tech finished among the top-20 last season at the NCAA national championship
meet. The Seahawks enter the dual meets with a record of 2-1 following a win
at Emory last weekend.
Leading the charge for the Seahawk
men is CAA Swimmer-of-the-Week Valtteri Halonen. The sophomore from Finland
has won three or more races in each of his last two meets and ranks second in
the league in the 100 and 200 Backstroke events.
The Seahawk women carry a 0-4 slate into the weekend and like the men, will
compete against three strong squads. UNCW fell at reigning NCAA Division III
national champions Emory last weekend. Senior Carly Tanner leads the CAA with
top times in the 100 Free and 100 Breaststroke and is third in the 50 Free.
The Seahawks return to conference
action the following weekend with a pod meet hosted by Delaware. UNCW will compete
against William & Mary, James Madison (women) and the host Blue Hens in
the two-day competition that begins at 9:30 a.m. on Nov. 3.
