ARLINGTON, Virginia - Senior workhorse Keith Rendleman of UNCW was named First-Team Preseason All-CAA and the UNCW men's basketball team selected to finish in 11th place at Tuesday's Colonial Athletic Association's Basketball Media Day.

The Seahawks, who tied for eighth place last season with a 5-13 conference record, return three starters from the 10-21 squad in 2011-12. Third-year head coach Buzz Peterson wasn't surprised with results of the poll conducted by the league's coaches, media relations directors and media members.

"I knew we would be picked low," said Peterson, who owns a 23-39 record in two seasons. "That's not where we're going to finish. This group of guys is a determined bunch who will get better and better as the year progresses. We have a challenging non-conference schedule and look forward to conference play in January."

UNCW, which has won four CAA titles (2000, 2002, 2003, 2006), trailed Drexel, Delaware, George Mason, Old Dominion, Northeastern, James Madison, Hofstra, Georgia State, William & Mary and Towson in the balloting.

Rendleman, a 6-8, 220-pound forward from Iron Station, N.C., averaged 15.3 points and 10.0 rebounds one year ago, collecting a whopping 16 double-doubles for the Seahawks. He was joined on the First-Team by Drexel playmaker Frantz Massenat (Preseason Player-of-the-Year), Jamelle Hagins (Delaware), Damion Lee (Drexel), Jonathan Lee (Northeastern) and Devon Saddler (Delaware).

"Keith continued to improve last season and showed why he is one of the best players in this league," said Peterson. "He works hard every day and carries that over to game day. Keith has proven that hard work pays off and he should have a great season this coming year."

In other news, the UNCW men's team will appear twice on the CAA's television package in 2012-13 and both will be at Trask Coliseum. The UNCW-George Mason game on Jan. 12, 2013, the lone meeting between the two teams this season, will begin at 2 p.m., while the UNCW-Hofstra matchup on Feb. 9, 2013, has been moved up to Noon.
