WILMINGTON, North Carolina - A pair of second-half goals from Chris Harmon broke a halftime stalemate and lifted nationally-ranked Old Dominion to a 3-1 win over host UNCW in Colonial Athletic Association men's soccer action on Saturday at the UNCW Soccer Stadium.

The Monarchs, who are ranked as high as 12th in the national polls, snapped a two-match scoring drought with the three goals as they raised their record to 8-1-2 overall and 2-1-2 in the league. The Seahawks suffered their third straight loss and saw their record dip to 5-8-1 and 2-4-0.

With the score tied at 1-all in the 63rd minute, Harmon netted his first goal of the evening, and fifth of the season, when he beat UNCW goalkeeper Brad Newman with a shot to the upper right corner from 18 yards out. Yannick Smith began the play with a shot that was blocked by Newman, but he corralled the rebound and found Harmon open in the middle with a short pass from the right side.

Harmon closed the game's scoring in the 70th minute with a penalty kick. An Old Dominion player was brought down in the box leading to the spot kick.

UNCW jumped in front in the 22nd minute when freshman Nathaniel Goodwin was on the scoring end of a cross by fellow rookie Colin Bonner. UNCW built up its attack on the right flank and Bonner beat his defender with a move toward the end line. Bonner sent a cross from 17 yards out on the right and Goodwin came in from the weak side and knocked it home.

ODU drew even less than five minutes later as Tim Hopkinson was on the receiving end of a chip pass from Jordan LeBlanc and beat Newman from eight yards out.

Both teams rattled off 15 shots apiece in a wide open game that featured many scoring chances for both sides.

Newman finished with six saves, a career-best for him. His opposite number Victor Francoz made three.

The Seahawks conclude their homestand on Oct. 17 with a 7 p.m. start against Georgia State.
