WILMINGTON, North Carolina - Senior Thomas Bass and junior Lori Beth Adams
were named Colonial Athletic Association Golfers-of-the-Week after Bass won the
Fighting Irish Gridiron Golf Classic earlier this week and Adams helped her
squad to a tie for first at the Lady Pirate Intercollegiate.
Bass captured his second
career tournament victory by two strokes over teammate Payne McLeod, who
finished tied for second. After opening with an even-par 71, Bass carded a
three-under-par 68 to take over the tournament lead after 36 holes. In round
three, he fought off several challenges to claim medalist honors. His middle
round 68 was one-off his career-low set last fall at the VCU Shootout.
Bass' victory was the first
for UNCW since the 2011 CAA Championship won by former standout Josh Brock. It
was also his 11th career top-10 finish, moving him into a tie for fourth on
UNCW's all-time list.
Adams, meanwhile, received
CAA Golfer-of-the-Week accolades for the second time this season after turning
in a third-place finish in the rain-shortened Lady Pirate Intercollegiate,
carding a one-under-par 71 in the first round Monday before heavy rains washed
out the final 36 holes.
The one-under-par 71 marked
the second round of par or lower of the season for the Burlington, N.C. product
while her third-place finish matched the lowest result of her career. The finish
was also Adam's third top-10 result this season and the fourth in her last six
tournaments played.
The Seahawk men next play
in the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate in Jonesborough, Tenn. The tournament
begins on Oct. 12. The women return to the course on Oct. 26 for the first
round of the prestigious Landfall Invitational.
