WILLIAMSBURG, Virginia -Junior Dani Rutter scored twice in the second half to break a 1-all tie and lead William & Mary to a 3-1 victory over UNCW in Colonial Athletic Association women's soccer action Thursday at Albert-Daly Field.

The Tribe improved to 10-3-0 overall and remained undefeated in league play as they moved to 4-0-0. The Seahawks, meanwhile, slipped to 7-6-1 and 2-3-0 with the setback.

"Our first half performance was very good," said UNCW Head Coach Paul Cairney. "However, we gave up that killer goal right at the start of the second half. You cannot allow a good team like William and Mary to get into a rhythm. We lost our composure as a group in the second half. We are a good team and I know that we will bounce back and get ready for Old Dominion Sunday."

With the score tied at 1-all at the break, Rutter put William & Mary ahead less than a minute into the second half, taking a feed from junior Audrey Berry and placing a shot in the back of the net for the decisive marker. Senior Bristol Cortlyn was also credited with an assist on the play.

Rutter added an insurance marker in the 70th minute, heading home a corner kick from Bristol for her fourth goal of the season.

In the first half, junior Natalie Winslow opened the scoring at the 6:35 mark, converting a corner kick from senior Kim Currie for her first collegiate tally.

Senior Mallory Schaffer brought the Tribe level at 1-all in the 22nd minute, tallying her league-leading ninth goal of the season on a shot from 15 yards out. Cortlyn was credited with an assist on the play.

The Tribe held a 20-11 shot advantage in the contest, highlighted by a 13-4 margin in the second half. W&M also held a 6-5 edge in corner kicks taken.

Freshman Caroline Casey finished with four saves for the Tribe while senior Caitlin Hunter made seven stops for the Seahawks.

UNCW returns to action Sunday as it hosts Old Dominion in a 2 p.m. matinee at the UNCW Soccer Stadium.
