GOLF, Illinois - Junior Laverry Kumar carded a one-over-par 73 Tuesday to lead UNCW in the final round of the Windy City Collegiate Championship at the Glen View Golf Club.

Kumar's one-over-par finish to the 54-hole event catapulted the New Delhi, India product up 16 spots on the final individual leaderboard as she finished the tournament in a four-way tie for 30th with a 226 (78-75-73) result.

Freshman Johanna Bjoerk carded a 77 over the final 18 holes to end up one stroke back of Kumar in a tie for 34th at 11-over-par (74-76-77=227). Junior Lori Beth Adams finished tied for 43rd with a 230 (73-77-80) tournament scorecard while junior Jeanne Metivier (84-80-82=246/T-75th) and sophomore Mallory Warrick (84-83-86=253/T-80th) completed UNCW's entry.

"Laverry's round today was outstanding under difficult conditions," said UNCW Head Coach Cindy Ho. "For one of the shorter hitters in the field, Laverry was able to put herself in position to be successful with her excellent ball striking throughout the round. I was also pleased with Johanna's play during the tournament as she was able to put together three solid rounds despite not feeling at 100 percent."

TCU's April McCoy posted a three-under-par 69 during Tuesday's final round to claim individual medalist honors with a two-under-par finish of 214 (73-72-69). Notre Dame's Lindsey Weaver (70-71-74=215), a second-round co-leader, and UC Davis' Demi Runas (72-73-70) finished one shot back of McCoy in a tie for second. Three players - Iowa State's Punpaka Phuntumabamrung, UC Davis' Amy Simanton and Northwestern's Nicole Zhang - all ended the event in a tie for fourth at even par.

The Seahawks combined for a team total 312 Tuesday to finish the 54-hole event in 14th place with a tournament scorecard of 929 (309-308-312), two strokes ahead of 15th-place Colorado (308-303-320=931).

"I thought we got off to a good start today," said Ho. "We played our first nine holes very well under tough conditions. Over our last nine holes, however, we got into trouble with some of the tougher holes on the course and we started to press, which made things difficult for us."

No. 6 Arizona took home team medalist honors with a three-round total of 879 (293-289-297), rallying from a two-stroke deficit to claim a four-shot victory over 36-hole leader No. 2 Washington (287-283-303=883). Host Northwestern (298-294-292=884) finished one stroke back of the Huskies in third.

UNCW returns to action Oct. 8-9 in the Lady Pirate Intercollegiate, hosted by East Carolina at the Greenville Golf Club in Greenville, N.C.

"I saw a lot of good things from our entire lineup," said Ho. "We had some good moments against some of the top collegiate teams in the country and were able to finish higher than a very talented Colorado squad. We just learn to do the little things well and manage our mistakes to give ourselves opportunities to score better."
