WILMINGTON, North Carolina - From the popular mid-week Tip-Off Luncheon to the late-night "Fan Jam" on Friday, Oct. 12, the Midnite Madness festivities that signal the start of basketball season at UNCW offer something for every Seahawk basketball fan.
The three days of activities planned by UNCW's Seahawk Sports Marketing Office are designed to "get folks excited about the start of basketball season," according to Mike Vaccaro, assistant director of SSM. "We're hoping to enhance the experience this year with the use of our new large video board and the LED signage. "
Special activities are planned around the men's soccer game Wednesday (7 p.m. vs. James Madison) and women's soccer matchup Thursday (7 p.m. vs. James Madison) leading up to the grand finale Friday at Trask Coliseum. An ice cream social, cash cab and tip-off dinner at Wagoner Hall are planned around the key Colonial Athletic Association games.
Friday's schedule begins at 8:30 p.m. when everyone is invited to join the men's and women's teams in the annual Trask Trek, a traditional march down Chancellor's Walk to the arena.
The doors to Trask Coliseum open at 9 p.m. Local radio personalities Foz of Z107.5 and Craig Thomas of Sunny 104.5 will provide introductions, followed by performances from the UNCW Dance Team, Cheerleaders, and Pep Band.
The SSM staff will conduct several contests before the Seahawks take the court. Designated players will then compete in the three-point shooting and slam dunk contests.
The night concludes on the lawn of Hoggard Hall as the Association for Campus Entertainment (ACE) stages its annual "Fan Jam." Games, food, and entertainment will be available at 11 p.m.
