WILMINGTON, North Carolina
- Juniors Payne McLeod and Lori Beth Adams have given UNCW a sweep of the Colonial
Athletic Association's Player-of-the-Week honors in men's and women's golf.
McLeod was recognized after finishing tied for 12th at the
Tar Heel Intercollegiate last weekend in Chapel Hill, N.C.
A first-team All-CAA selection as a sophomore, McLeod opened
the season with an impressive outing in helping the Seahawks finish sixth in a
14-team field that included six teams that played in the 2012 NCAA tournament.
McLeod opened the final day in a tie for 19th overall, but
fashioned an even-par 72 to climb seven spots on the leader board and post his
16th career top-20 finish.
Adams, meanwhile, earned the women's honor after placing in
the top 10 for the second consecutive week with a ninth-place finish at the
Cardinal Cup in Simpsonville, Ky.
The Burlington, N.C., product carded a five-over-par
tournament total of 221 (75-73-73) to pace three top 15 performers for the
Seahawks in the 86-player field as junior Laverry Kumar and freshman Johanna
Bjoerk both ended the event tied for 14th.
A 2011-12 second-team All-CAA honoree, Adams opened the
2012-13 season with a tie for eighth place at Wofford's Terrier Intercollegiate
earlier in the month. She now has five top 10 finishes to her credit, including
three in her last four tournaments played.
Both programs return to action Oct. 1-2. The men are at the
Rees Jones Intercollegiate, hosted by South Carolina, on Daufuskie Island, S.C.,
while the women travel to Glen View, Ill., to take part in the Windy City
Collegiate Classic, hosted by Northwestern.
