WILMINGTON, North Carolina - The UNCW men's basketball team will tackle 30 regular season games in 2012-13, opening its Colonial Athletic Association schedule on Jan. 2 against Towson and closing out the season with a matchup on the road against anticipated preseason league favorite Drexel.

Overall, Coach Buzz Peterson's club plays 14 home games and 16 road contests, including seven in November, six in December, eight in January, nine in February and one in March. The schedule features 12 non-conference contests that precede an 18-game CAA slate.

"From the start, it's a challenging schedule and one that we're looking forward to," said Peterson, UNCW's third-year coach. "We'll have a young team this season, so it's a great way to test our players and see what they can do."

The Seahawks will hold an exhibition game against N.C. Wesleyan on Nov. 3 and begin the regular season on Nov. 11 with a 2 p.m. tipoff against state rival and two-time defending Big South Conference champion UNC Asheville. The Seahawks then battle Richmond, Ohio and Purdue in successive road games before returning home to entertain Wofford and Hampton in the Nations of Coaches Classic.

In the Nations of Coaches Classic, a tournament designed to assist teams with scheduling, Wofford and Hampton will collide in a neutral site game at Trask Coliseum on Friday, Nov. 23, at 2 p.m. UNCW then faces Wofford on Friday, Nov. 24, and plays Hampton on Saturday, Nov. 25, in a pair of 2 p.m. starts.

UNCW begins its December slate by traveling to Marshall on Dec. 1 and wraps up the final month of the calendar year with its last non-conference game on Dec. 29 at Campbell.

The Seahawks and Tigers go head-to-head on Jan. 2 in the CAA opener for both teams at Trask Coliseum. UNCW has eight games in the first month of the year, evenly split between home and away contests.

Peterson's team then plays nine games - four away and five at home - in February, beginning with a two-game road trip to Delaware and Towson. UNCW plays five of its final eight games in Wilmington.

The Seahawks wind up the season by playing the Dragons in Philadelphia for the first time since claiming a 75-69 victory on Feb. 24, 2010, at the Daskalakis Center.
