WILMINGTON, North Carolina - Senior Stephanie Rose tallied four points on a goal and two assists to lead UNCW to a 3-2 victory over Davidson in collegiate women's soccer action Sunday at the UNCW Soccer Stadium.

The Seahawks improved to 2-2-1 on the season with the victory as it picked up its fourth win in five tries against the Wildcats, who slipped to 1-3-0 with the one-goal setback.

Following a two-hour delay due to weather, Davidson opened the scoring at the 13:16 mark as sophomore Stephanie Piperno collected a loose ball at the top of the box and fired a shot that deflected off a UNCW defender and into the goal for the game's first tally.

UNCW leveled the score at 1-all in the 36th minute when Rose found freshman Morgan Leyble with a pass inside the box before the Jacksonville, N.C., product buried a shot into the lower left hand corner of the net for her second goal in as many contests.

Rose put the Seahawks ahead, 2-1, at the 56:59 mark, using a through ball from junior Nicole Costa to get behind the defense before placing a shot just inside the left post for her first goal of the campaign.

UNCW would stretch its lead to 3-1 less than three minutes later. Senior Amanda Holmes took a feed from Rose at the top of the box and place into the left side of the net for her first goal of the season . Sophomore Stephanie Bronson was also credited with an assist on the play.

Davidson cut the Seahawks cushion in half in the 69th minute as junior Tori Krause knocked home a loose ball on a goalmouth scramble for her second strike of the season.

The Wildcats had a chance to tie the game in the final minutes, but freshman Sarah Tuggle's shot attempt on a breakaway opportunity went just wide of the goal.

Senior keeper Caitlin Hunter made nine saves in goal for the Seahawks.  Junior Renae Cairns got the start in net for the Wildcats and made three saves before being replaced in the 65th minute by sophomore Rachel Locke, who finished with two stops.

UNCW held a slim 16-15 edge in shots taken in the contest and enjoyed a 6-5 advantage in corner kicks taken.

Both teams return to action Friday. UNCW hosts Campbell in action in the UNCW Courtyard Marriott Wilmington Invitational at 7:30 p.m. Davidson entertains Clemson in a 7 p.m. kickoff.
