schedule this weekend with matches against state foes Charlotte and Davidson at
the UNCW Soccer Stadium.

Notes
UNCW
takes to the friendly confines of the UNCW Soccer Stadium for the first time in
the regular season after opening the 2012 season with three road and
netural-site contests, all against nationally-ranked opposition ... The Seahawks played
an exhibition contest against UNC Chapel Hill during the preseason and posted a
2-1 victory in that matchup ... UNCW returns home with a 0-2-1 mark on the young
season after suffering a 2-0 setback at No. 8 Virginia on Aug. 26 ...Senior
keeper Caitlin Hunter recorded a career-high 13 saves to keep the upset-minded
Seahawks close, but the Cavaliers scored twice in the second half to record the
victory ... Hunter's 13 stops marked the second time this season and the eighth
time in her career that she posted double-figure saves in a contest ... UNCW was
limited to just two shots against Virginia, but one of those attempts, a shot
in the 65th minute by freshman Morgan Leyble, found the post ... Senior Amanda Holmes, junior Nicole Costa and freshman Lindsey Byrne are currently tied for
the team lead with two shots apiece.
Scouting Charlotte
Charlotte brings a 2-1-0 record into the weekend, opening the season with
one-goal victories over the College of Charleston and Western Carolina before
suffering a 2-0 setback to No. 5 Wake Forest at home on Aug. 26 ... Sophomore Sara
Trexler leads the 49ers in scoring with four points (2 G) while sophomore
Amanda Jones (1 G) and junior Taylor Rovito (2 A) are tied for second with two
points apiece ... Junior Alex Kubrick and freshman Annika McHenry have split time
in goal for coach John Cullen's squad, combining to record 16 saves, a 1.00
goals against average and a .842 save percentage ... Friday's match serves as the first of two
road contests for Charlotte this weekend as the 49ers will face East Carolina
Sunday in a 2 p.m. kickoff.
Charlotte Series
Notes
UNCW trails Charlotte by a 5-2 margin in the all-time series ... The 49ers have
won each of the last five meetings between the two programs ... Five of the seven
previous meetings have taken place in Charlotte, including a 1-0 victory in the
two sides meeting at Transamerica Field last season ... Five of the first seven
meetings between UNCW and Charlotte have been decided by one goal, including
each of the last three matchups ... The last time the two teams faced each other
in Wilmington was on Sept. 21, 2007, a 1-0 victory for the 49ers
Scouting Davidson
Davidson stands at 1-1-0 on the young season, falling to Liberty in its
home opener, 1-0, before rebounding for a 2-0 shutout of visiting Tennessee
Tech ... Junior Tori Krause and sophomore Julia Singley have accounted for the Wildcats' two goals
this season while sophomore Stephanie Piperno has recorded the team's lone
assist ... In goal, junior Renae Cairns has played both in contests and has not
allowed a goal in 135 minutes of action, earning the shutout against the Golden
Eagles ... The Wildcats will open the weekend with a 7 p.m. contest at East
Carolina before traveling to the Port City for Sunday's contest.
Davidson Series Notes
UNCW brings a 6-2 lead in the all-time series into Sunday's matchup with
Davidson and has held the edge of late winning three of the last four matchups ...
The two sides are facing each other for the fifth straight season ... The
Seahawks are a perfect 3-0 at home against the Wildcats and have out-scored
them by a 9-2 margin in those contests ... UNCW won last season's meeting, 2-1,
at Davidson on Sept. 4 ... Four of UNCW's six victories in the series have come
by way of shutout.
UNCW In Home Openers
UNCW holds an all-time record of 10-7-1 in home openers and a mark of
10-5-1 under Head Coach Paul Cairney in home debuts ... The Seahawks have lost
their last two home openers, suffering a 1-0 loss to North Florida in the Hilton
Garden Inn Mayfaire Invitational in 2011 and a 4-0 defeat at the hands of No.
10 Wake Forest to open the 2010 campaign ... UNCW's last victory in a home opener
came in a 4-0 victory over Davidson to begin the home portion of the 2009
schedule.
Seahawks Ranked Fifth In NSCAA Mid-Atlantic
Poll
UNCW finds itself ranked in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America's
(NSCAA) Mid-Atlantic Region Poll for the second straight week, coming in fifth
place on the listing that features teams from the CAA, Atlantic 10, Ivy and
Patriot leagues ... The Seahawks are one of three CAA squads ranked in the NSCAA Mid-Atlantic
Poll as they are joined by conference foes Hofstra (3rd) and William & Mary
(7th) ... Friday's opponent Charlotte is also ranked, sitting in sixth place on
Monday's listing.

Record Tie Against No. 3 Wake Forest
UNCW
posted its first win or tie against a top 10 opponent when it played to a 0-0
draw against No. 3 Wake Forest at the Hilton Garden Inn Hokie Invitational in
Blacksburg, Va. on Aug. 19 ... The draw also marked the Seahawks first result
against an opponent from the Atlantic Coast Conference as they had compiled a
0-11-0 mark versus the conference prior to the tie with the Demon Deacons.
Hunter
Honored For Solid Opening Weekend
Senior keeper Caitlin Hunter was recognized by
various outlets for her play at the Hilton Garden Inn Hokie Invitational in
mid-August ... On Aug. 20, Hunter was named the Colonial Athletic Association
Women's Soccer Co-Player-of-the-Week and was selected as the CAA
Player-of-the-Week by the online publication College Sports Madness ... Hunter was also selected as the keeper
for the Soccer America Women's Team-of-the-Week on Aug. 22 ... Hunter allowed
just one goal in 211:37 in guiding the Seahawks to a 0-1-1 result against two
ranked opponents at the Hilton Garden Inn Hokie Invitational ... The Ashburn,
Va., product made six saves in a 1-0 double-overtime loss to host No. 22
Virginia Tech in the season opener on Aug. 17 before posting 10 saves in a 0-0
draw against No. 3 Wake Forest on Aug. 19 to record her eighth career shutout.

Stephanie Rose is currently tied
for fifth in program history with 20 goals ... She needs just one more strike
to break a tie with former standout Jenny Cauble (2004-07) ... Rose also sits
in seventh place on the squad's career scoring chart with 48 points and is just
six points away from tying three players - Cauble, Michelle Doherty (1998-2000)
and Katy Shearon (1995-98) - for fourth place on the all-time list (54) ...
Senior keeper Caitlin Hunter finds herself in
second place in wins (17), third in saves (252), fourth in save percentage (.797)
and fifth in goals against average (1.42) ... She needs one more victory to
move past Carla Linebarger (1996-99) into sole possession of second place on
the school's career victories list.

sits atop the league standings at 3-1 while Hofstra and James Madison are just
behind the Dragons in a tie for second at 2-1 ... Three teams - Delaware (0-1),
Northeastern (0-3) and Towson (0-3) - are all in search of their first result
of the season ... George Mason's Emily Harvery and Drexel's Gabby Dixon were
named the CAA's Player and Rookie-of-the-Week, respectively ... William &
Mary's Mallory Scheffer and George Mason's Tiana Kallenberger are tied for the
league lead in scoring with seven points apiece ... Both players have three goals and an assist to
their credit to date ... UNCW keeper Caitlin Hunter leads the league in saves (29)
and save percentage (.906) and ranks third in goals against average (0.90) ... All
