UNCW
puts the finishing touches on its season-opening road swing Sunday with its
contest against No. 8 Virginia ... The Seahawks are 0-1-1 on the season after opening
the 2012 campaign at the Hilton Garden Inn Hokie Invitational last weekend in
Blacksburg, Va. ... UNCW suffered a 1-0 double-overtime loss to No. 22 Virginia
Tech in its season opener on Aug. 17 before posting a 0-0 draw versus No. 3
Wake Forest on Aug. 19 ... The tie against the Demon Deacons marked the first
time in program history that the Seahawks have posted either a win or a tie against
a top 10 opponent ... Senior keeper Caitlin Hunter allowed just one goal in
211.37 of action, finishing the weekend with 16 saves ... Hunter also recorded
the eighth shutout of her career with her 10-save effort against Wake Forest ... Five
of the program's 17 freshmen made their collegiate debuts last weekend at the
Hokie Invitational, with three of those rookies - Lindsey Byrne, Katrina
Guillou and Morgan Leyble - starting both contests.

No. 8 Virginia wraps up its four-game home stand with Sunday's matchup
against the Seahawks ... The Cavaliers stand at 2-1 on the young season, having
opened the season with a 3-1 loss to
then-No. 8 Penn State on Aug. 17 before posting shutout victories over
Radford (5-0) and Liberty (3-0) ... Freshman Makenzy Doniak has gotten off to a
fast start in her collegiate career as she leads the squad in scoring with 10
points (4 G, 2 A) after three games ... Doniak has scored in each of the Cavaliers
three games this season, including a two-goal outing versus the Flames on
Wednesday ... In goal, Virginia has relied upon the tandem of junior Danielle
DeLisle and sophomore Churchill O'Connell in the early going ... The duo has
combined for five saves and a 1.03 goals against average in 260:25 played ... The
Cavaliers will be without the services of Head Coach Steve Swanson and
sophomore Morgan Brian, as both are representing the United States at the FIFA
U-20 Women's Women's World Cup in Japan ... Brian, the Soccer America
Freshman-of-the-Year in 2011, finished second on the team in scoring a season
ago with 30 points (11 G, 8 A) in 23 games.
Series Notes
Sunday's contest marks the first meeting between UNCW and Virginia ... The
Cavaliers serve as the third straight Atlantic Coast Conference opponent that
the Seahawks have faced to open the season and the second that they are facing
for the first time in program history (Virginia Tech).

Pair Of NSCAA Polls
UNCW finds itself ranked on the first National Soccer Coaches Association of
America (NSCAA) Mid-Atlantic Region Poll of the season, coming in fourth place
on the lsiting that features teams from the CAA, Atlantic 10, Ivy and Patriot
leagues ... The Seahawks are one of four CAA squads ranked in the Mid-Atlantic Poll as they are joined by
conference foes Hofstra (3rd), Old Dominion (5th) and William and Mary (6th) ...
UNCW also received votes on the first national ranking of the regular season,
garnering 23 votes to rank 11th among the teams in the also receiving votes
category.
Hunter
Honored For Solid Opening Weekend
Senior keeper Caitlin Hunter was recognized by various outlets for her play at
the Hilton Garden Inn Hokie Invitational last weekend ... On Monday, Hunter was
named the Colonial
Athletic Association Women's Soccer Co-Player-of-the-Week and was selected CAA
Player-of-the-Week by the online publication College Sports Madness ... On
Wednesday, Hunter was selected as the keeper for Soccer America Women's
Team-of-the-Week ... Hunter allowed just one goal in 211:37 in
guiding the Seahawks to a 0-1-1 result against two ranked opponents at the
Hilton Garden Inn Hokie Invitational ... The Ashburn, Va., product made six saves
in a 1-0 double-overtime loss to host No. 22 Virginia Tech on Aug. 17 before
posting 10 saves in a 0-0 draw against No. 3 Wake Forest on Aug. 19 to record
her eighth career shutout.

is currently tied for fifth in program history with 20 goals ... She needs just
one more strike to break a tie with former standout Jenny Cauble (2004-07) ...
Rose also sits in seventh place on the squad's career scoring chart with 48
points and is just six points away from tying three players - Cauble, Michelle
Doherty (1998-2000) and Katy Shearon (1995-98) - for fourth place on the
all-time list (54) ... Senior keeper Caitlin
Hunter finds herself in second place in wins (17), third in
saves (239), fourth in save percentage (.794) and fifth in goals against
average (1.41) ... She needs one more victory to move past Carla Linebarger
(1996-99) into sole possession of second place on the school's career victories
list.

Hofstra and James Madison sit atop the league standings at 1-0 following
the opening week of competition ... After all 11 teams took the field during the
first three days of the season, only two teams were in action with mid-week
contests ... Old Dominion fell to former league rival East Carolina, 1-0, and
George Mason scored a 2-1 victory over American in a derby match on Wednesday ...
Ten of the league's 11 programs are in action this weekend with Delaware the
only squad not taking to the field ... James Madison's Lauren Wilson and Old
Dominion's Taylor Wertz, who shared CAA Player-of-the-Week honors with senior
Caitlin Hunter on Monday, are tied for the league lead in scoring with three
points (1 G, 1 A).
